Another Day, Another Progressive Moral Panic

Two days ago, the left was apoplectic over Megyn Kelly’s scurrilous allegation that Santa Claus is white. (A white Santa?! What a crazy woman!) Not since George Wallace stood in the schoolhouse door has our nation suffered such an assault on racial harmony.

Yesterday, the pretty blonde elf ethnologist was relieved to learn that the offense furies had found a new mortal to torment. In an interview with GQ (that’s still around?), “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson revealed…

    Jon Gabriel, Ed.

The Left started the culture war, won it resoundingly, and now they’re roaming the country shooting the wounded survivors.

Absolutely perfect. That right there sums up all these little hysterias.

The first amendment is dead. The others will shortly follow.

A&E has every right to decide what it airs or not, but they should face the consequences for backing the PC left that DOESN’T WATCH their show. Instead of supporting the family that had reminded everyone that A&E is still a channel.

  3. Mike LaRoche

I wasn’t a “Duck Dynasty” fan before, but I am now.

And as for shooting the wounded survivors, I’ll paraphrase Gimli from The Lord of the Rings: “Let them come! They’ll find there’s yet a social conservative in America who still draws breath!”

  5. The King Prawn

A&E has slapped away the hand that feeds it with effete indignation. I wonder if pajama boy spilled is cocoa when he first heard the remarks from Robertson?

Phil Robertson came out of the closet as a straight man and was fired for it.

Another group of Americans are so proud of their own sexual preference they throw themselves a parade every year to make sure everyone knows how proud they are of it.

    What hypocrisy?  What?

  7. Schrodinger

Contrast the reaction to Phil with this:

A married, heterosexual gym teacher at a tony Upper West Side private school was fired because his lesbian supervisor disapproved of his “traditional family status,” the canned teacher claims in a new Manhattan lawsuit.

The LGBT thugs are out in force.

If Phil wasn’t fired for stating his preference for vagina’s over men’s rumps, the only other statement he made was this one:

“Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”

If he was fired for that statement, he got fired because he came out as a Christian.

What would have happened if he came out as a Mus…

    Oh to hell with it.

I’ll catch hell for it, but that’s going straight to facebook.

I joined the “Stand with Phil” FB group as soon as I found it last night. And signed the petition. And will not burn anyone representing the A&E executives in effigy, because I am not a leftist and actually value freedom of thought.

Brian Boitano came out as gay today.

His stating his homosexual preference means he relegated my heterosexual preference to “un-preferred” in his own inclinations.

I don’t know where he works, but he should be fired for what he did to me today.

  12. genferei

People in the media consistently insult my beliefs and lifestyle, yet I never demand they be censored or fired.

It turns out this is a strategic mistake, and the right should, in fact, have been burning network executives in effigy and otherwise making their lives a misery. When it becomes clear they can’t say ANYTHING without endless hassles, they might grow a pair. Until then, they will default left. And we’ll cry about having lost the culture wars.

  13. Fred Cole

I really don’t want to start a knife fight when the alert system is broken, but what that guy said was nasty, moronic and bigoted.

But whatever, I disagree with what he says, but I’ll defend to the death to be a nasty, moronic, bigot.

However, this guy is a [expletive] victim of a witch hunt the way that John Derbyshire was a victim.

This guys can wrap his moronic bigotry in the Bible, but that doesn’t magically cure all, make him a victim of religious persecution, or excuse his comments.

Bait?  He’s not standing there with a fishhook.  I think he’s covered in C4!  Don’t go near him!

  16. Schrodinger

Gee Fred, I didn’t know you were so bigoted. Do you hate all Christians? Sounds like it from your comment. I think  Fred should be suspended from Ricochet.

Heck no! If you really want to punish him make him defend himself with the alert system broken.

  18. Tom Meyer
    Jon Gabriel, Ed.

The PR wing of GLAAD eventually sprung from their king-size fainting couch and bitterly denounced Robertson’s orthodox views. Their virtual flash mob so intimidated A&E that the network suspended the show’s star indefinitely. Because he said something GLAAD didn’t agree with.

Then again, maybe A&E didn’t like what he said either.  Perhaps they thought being associated with someone who said such things is bad for their image.

Like Fred, I find it a little hard to find great sympathy for a multi-millionaire being suspended from a reality show for saying something in a way that many folks — self included — found offensive.  I admit I find it a little spineless of them, but companies are usually spineless that way.

  19. Mike LaRoche

John Derbyshire responded to his critics by telling ‘em to get stuffed. Phil Robertson should do the same.
