George Gently is fantastic, especially since the last few episodes were download enabled.

If you enjoy Martin Shaw and want to see him in a slightly different procedural, try Judge John Deed.   Sometimes an "activist" Judge is worth rooting for!  These are not streaming yet - you can order the discs and watch Gently while awaiting delivery.

Dave Carter's alter ego Alphonse Fontenot would be an excellent "shadow Secretary" of State.  He could keep our adversaries straight and our allies even straighter, and would not be passing out at the first sight of a request for his Congressional testimony!

Demo campaign consultant Bob Shrum is famous for working on 8 (or is it 9) losing Demo presidential campaigns.  Dems in the know stay away from him, as though he has a lightening rod strapped to his swollen head.

Peggy Noonan is rapidly filling this same role in the GOP.  No presidential candidate will touch her during a campaign, and it is becoming increasingly evident that she is out-of-touch with Republican political reality.  She is strictly an establishment Republican (witness her behavior when John McCain chose Sarah Palin to energize the '08 ticket), and her frustration flows largely from watching from the sidelines as the Tea Party and others pull away from her shores.

Franco has nailed it.  She is as one with David Brooks & David Frum, and should be disavowed at every opportunity.

The fact that Obama feels the need to run ads in deep, deep blue Detroit should make you feel better. · October 31, 2012 at 7:06am

Can't the Obama campaign simply drive to the polls the 3 people in Detroit not disqualified from voting due to felony convictions or lack of American citizenship??

Romney 297 (including PA & OH)

Obama 241

Special side bet:  Watch the vote totals for Libertarian Presidential candidate Gary Johnson.  My money is on his vote total being more than the margin between Romney & Obama in at least 3 states:  New Mexico (where he was governor for 8 years), Colorado (where legalization of pot is on the ballot - if the stoners can find the polling places), and New Hampshire (home of the FreeState Project).

Second side-bet:  When the vote totals start coming up short next Tuesday, watch the Obamunists start sounding the tocsin for "extending voting hours" or "adding more voting days" to "account" for the "vote loss" attributed to Hurricane Sandy, global warming, high altitude, bad mojo, etc.)  Look for trouble with the count in Ohio, where folks who appear at the polls after requesting (but not voting) an absentee ballot must vote a provisional ballot, which is not counted for many days after the election.

raycon: Candy Crowley is no Jim Lerher.  She will shill for Biden and, if necessary, she will undermine Ryan.  More than with the Romney-Obama show, this will be the Ryan-Biden/Crowley show.

The good news... truth will win out because Ryan not only knows the truth, he has the courage to not give in to people in a position of power.  Remember the Obama/Ryan budget run in. · 21 minutes ago

Candy Crowley would be effective - except that she is notmoderating the Vice Presidential Debate.  Martha Raddatzof ABC News is.  Oops! · 38 minutes ago

Thanks Zen! Do we have a fairer moderator now? · 34 minutes ago

Absolutely!  With Candy Crowley, we have a moderator "in the bag" for Obama / Biden.  With Martha Raddatz, we have a moderator who IS A BAG for Obama / Biden.

For some amusing and enlightening examples, check out Newsbusters look at sweet Martha's "creds":

She clearly won't be putting any pressure on our "Vice-Buffoon," BUT Ryan should be able to rumble her better than Crowley.

At the end of the day, you are correct, Peter!  Cato the Elder couldn't say it better!  6-3, and the mandate collapses!

All laughter aside, this result is NOT an outlying aberration.  Here in North Carolina, most of the media attention has been on the passage of the "Marriage = One Man + One Woman" state constitutional amendment.  In a little-noted development, however, the Democratic presidential primary featured a match up between BHO and "No Preference "  Obama took only 79% of the vote in his OWN PARTY primary, with 21% of Democrat voters expressing "No Preference."  Not very auspicious news for the Great Leader, and certainly an astonishing outcome given his (and the FLOTUS) camping out here in North Carolina during the past few months.

Perhaps James Carville is correct.  Perhaps they CAN still lose this race!

Years ago, a woman named Marilyn vos Savant scored well on some standardized tests and ran around touting herself as "the world's smartest woman."  She opined forever in "Parade," America's short-attention span Sunday newspaper filler.  She might still be weighing in on topics today, all on the strength of a dubious credential and lots of self-promotion.

David Brooks is a similar creature.  He is a mediocre writer with tremendous pretentions about being an "intellectual" of the NY Review of Books variety.  Of course, this persona gives him no "edge" in Manhattan, where pretentious twaddle is a prerequisite for getting a dinner table.  So Brooks registers Republican and markets himself as a "thinking conservative."  The NY Times laughs itself silly, and other liberal organs, such as the BBC and NPR, listened to his "wisdom" with hushed reverence.

Brooks offered his original praise for Obama after fawning about the "leadership" he displayed through the crease in his pants.  He later urged him to run for President after an uncritical read of Obama's first (of several) autobiographies.

Brooks is not just a "sap."  He is a dolt with poor analytic skills and wretched judgment.

Back to Canada, Brooks!
