Following the Nobel Peace Prize is like reading the New York Times: it's always good to understand what the Left thinks about itself.

Paul Rahe.  Someone sent me a link to his Feb. 2011 piece, "Marriage -- and Children."  It's still the best piece I've ever read on that subject--and it was the best possible introduction to Ricochet.

I guess compromise does happen in smoke-filled rooms.

MichaelC19fan: The monarchy has worked quite well for Britain not withstanding Prince Harry's latest antics. For every Harry I can point out to a  JFK or Clinton.   Another point I like to make is yes the Declaration of Independence likes to use George III as a bogey man but it was an elected Parliament that passed all those laws that lead to the Revolution.      · 5 minutes ago
Edward Smith: You don't have to have a Monarchy to have Rich Young Fools. · 1 minute ago

The question is not whether rulers will err, but rather how the regime accounts for such errors.  Human nature is human nature; both Kings and Presidents are fallen.  The issue is whether elections are the most just way of dealing with the problem.  For that question, representative government, controlled by the sovereign people, is preferable to  an un-elected monarchy.

The most sickening thing I've seen was the deluge of tweets declaring, "hate begets hate"--as if there's a moral equivalency between those who defend traditional marriage and those who murder those who do.

Istook asked for a plug, but it was for Hillsdale's online Constitution Courses.  I panicked.  What can I say other than that maybe it was the lack of a grande latte that caused me to stumble?

Rob Long: Wait.  You were on the radio and youdidn't pitch the benefits of a Ricochet membership?  Noskin in the game?  Noprice of a grande latte??

Well, okay.  But next time I expect more. · 14 minutes ago

After this, I'd even go up to $40/year.  The laws of supply and demand at work, eh?

KC Mulville: The joy of commerce: Ricochet gives Stephen visibility, Stephen promotes Ricochet ... now isn't that worth about $30 a year? · 0 minutes ago

Leigh,Thanks for the comment. Interesting if Romney said as much, if true. I haven't seen or heard anything on that note--and nothing from any of the transcripts bears that out. Would you mind sending me the citation. Thanks!
