The best thing about this podcast episode is that there was no talk about THE WEATHER (THE LEAST INTERESTING SUBJECT EVER IN THE HISTORY OF HUMAN COMMUNICATION) in the various participant's locales. We like you guys, find you interesting and want to hear what you have to say. In the future can we just hit the topics right away? We're American, not British. Let's leave talking about the weather to people who are uncomfortable with one another in a social milieu IN ENGLAND, hmmkay?
It's not a comprehensive policy for Afghanistan, but at the very least Romney should announce that he is granting Dr. Afridi, the Afghani doctor that was crucial to the Bin Laden raid, political asylum after he does everything in his power to remove Afridi from the clutches of the ISI where he is currently being TORTURED.
Obama should be ashamed of himself for not getting the doctor out in the first place. What message does this send to any prospective human intelligence source in the war on terror? The USA will use you up and spit you out.
This is a concrete step that could be taken at relatively minimal cost that would return dividends.
I really love you guys but honest to Pete, if we don't get Podhoretz on another connection I'm not going to listen to this podcast anymore. Simply unbearable.
@Justine Olawsky Have you watched the Power of Art documentary by Simon Schama? Just phenomenal. I'm also enjoying to a lesser degree his new docu on Shakespeare. He has an inimitable power of description that can sometimes seem mannered, but hey at least it's passionate and has a point of view!
I am reading The Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter which is the best fiction book I've read so far this year, and I generally read about 100 books a year.
Nathan thank you so much for posting this video. I have family members and friends that are affected by this addiction, who in turn have caused much damage to themselves and sorrow to others others because of it.
Although I object to porn on a moral basis, it is great to see that physiologically speaking there is reason to condemn its use as well.
Dennis Prager made the point this morning on his show that if conservatives were not "racist"...that would actually mean conservatives were good people, and it's not possible to a liberal that conservatives are good. As Dennis always says, to us, they're wrong, to them, we're evil.
I agreed up to #4. Would they rabble rouse, even try and subvert any Tea Party demonstrations? Sure. An actual bombing? I can't believe they'd go that far.
Growing up as a kid our parents wouldn't let us watch tv but they would let us watch old movies. We could rent one video to watch on friday or saturday night. Have to say, William Holden in Sabrina for me. WHITE DINNER JACKETS!!!!! Isnt it romantic? Yes, it is!!!!! He was my first Hollywood crush, but definitely not the last.
PS to the OP & other commenters Natalie Wood was gorgeous, Julie Christie stunning, Bardot an icon...
Shoutingboy thanks for the post. My you are brave!
What does it say about me that living in heavily conservative Orange County, I still can't bring myself to put a R&R '12 sticker on my car? The only time I ever did put a political sticker on my car, it was a Yes on Prop 8 sticker and I took it off literally the day after the election. The whole time it was on my car I was so afraid my tires would get slashed etc.
I did see a W '04 sticker on a car on the 405 last week. That I don't get...it's 8 years later people!
I actually think this behavior argues against James Hewitt being Harry's father. This sounds like what Prince Phillip's un-PC/Philandering gene would do after slightly mutating, being unbound from the still-rigid expectations of post-Edwardian court life and propelled into the 21st century. Poor Harry, living a life of all the perks and none of the responsibilities. What kind of behavior did we all expect, really? He's just a rascal and totally hilarious.
What Williamson is missing is that it would make Romney too uncomfortable personally to behave in the way that he prescribes. Romney isn't acting the way he is only as a calculation. It's actually who he is. He's never going to be irreverent, and he's not particularly flashy with his wealth.
Being Mormon I can say if he were to behave in a more in your face manner regarding his money, it would really negatively affect the way he was viewed within the LDS culture, for what it's worth.
My two favorite quotes from the article?
You want to make it rain? R-MONEY is going to make it storm, like biblical.
and...
Have a gander at that Romney family picture: five sons, zero daughters. Romney has 18 grandchildren, and they exceed a 2:1 ratio of grandsons to granddaughters (13:5). When they go to church at their summer-vacation home, the Romney clan makes up a third of the congregation. He is basically a tribal chieftain.
Professor Obama? Two daughters. May as well give the guy a cardigan. And fallopian tubes.
