Joe, it will have to star Will Ferrell.

Because, um, this is farce.

Rob Long: "It's so weird that I don't hate you." · 45 minutes ago

That begs the question which is crazier: that you weren't hated, or that the lack of hatred was considered weird? · 22 hours ago

It's a conundrum.

Rob Long

He's on the podcast right now.  Just asked him about it.

And she slapped him!

Rob Long

"It's so weird that I don't hate you."

Rob Long

Wait.  They're not full?

We use full cups all the time.  Maybe not full-to-the-brim, but there's actual drinking going on.  As far as visible levels of the drink are concerned, we don't really think about it too much.

On the other hand, the plastic cubes are a must.  It's just impossible to keep the ice there under the lights, and refilling the ice after each take would be a gigantic delay.  The trick with these things is to get as many takes in the can as possible as quickly as possible.

Rob Long

I'm in.  Just bought about 10 boxes of toothpaste!

(I love me my Amazon Prime...)

Rob Long

Hey!  Didn't we already tell you that we're operating on a shoestring?

You want a mug?  It's not about the number of comments.

It's about the number of members you sign up!  This is a pyramid business, baby.

Rob Long

I've been using Downcast app, which I think exists for Android.

Rob Long

Wait a minute.  When He spoke to you it was to say, "Move to California?"

He really does have a sense of humor!

I kid.

I can't say that He's ever spoken to me.  As I've confessed many times, I'm not really a believer.  But it's hard to read a post like yours and not be envious.

EJHill:

Although, to segue from "The Healthy Penis" to "The Earthquake Ankle" to the "Confusing Breast" is sending all sorts of alarms out about our Rico-Founding Father.

No need for alarm.  He's just a clever businessman.  The Iranian clerics and advertising execs alike have known for decades that ankle sells. · 7 hours ago

Rawls: Reminds me of all the crazy stuff Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and John McTernan have said about gays causing hurricanes and whatnot. · 40 minutes ago

Actually, not to split hairs, but Jerry Falwell is pretty careful about that stuff.  Different sect, actually.

Zafar: I know, I know, I agree with you, and yet I found myselfunable to resist Shahs of Sunset, in all its (their?) sqaualid technicolour.

This says something unflattering about who I am, I admit this.

You should be ashamed of yourself!  Seriously!  You should cover your head in shame and beg forgiveness for your awful and unredeemable taste!

(By the way, did you think that "nose" comment at that party was out of line?  I didn't, but I sort of get where she was coming from.  And I have to be honest: I'm sick of Reza.)

Misthiocracy

Pigboy:

...Podhoretz and Long were talking about all the press that relatively unpopular shows likeGirlsget, whileBig Bang Theorygets little or no press even though it attracts a regular audience that measures in the millions. Or something like that.

Reading between the lines, you might find something that's always bothered me about conservatives: the assumption that popularity equals merit...

Are you attempting to imply thatBig Band Theoryis not deserving of positive critical attention?

Me, I think it's a really well-written show.

When Sheldon, Raj, and Howard were yukking it up over a game ofSettlers of Catan, for me it was a 30-minute sitcom delight.

I can't get enough of it, really. · 8 minutes ago

See #56. My point—unsuccessful as it clearly was—was to suggest that popularity doesn't necessarily equal good. And that the reverse (lack of viewership doesn't necessarily mean bad) is also true. · 36 minutes ago

That is undoubtedly true.   Exhibit A: Lady Gaga.

Pigboy: Thanks for clarifying, Rob. I wonder if it has to do with what the critic perceives as being different enough to warrant criticism? In other words, if NCIS is a standard police procedural, is it worth taking a closer look at? I dunno.Keith: It's a pretty big leap to go from wanting to talk about the relative merits of different works of art to authoritarianism. The unwillingness on the part of some people to say, with confidence, that this art is bad while that art is good, is a little weird to me. · 12 hours ago

Honestly?  I think the NCIS reaction from the "elite media" is because it's unapologetically about the world of the US military.

Rob Long

Why is it that it feels so great to look at that shadow and think, "That's us!"

Also, unrelated:  atomic space cars, when???
