I agree with you 100%.

I never get tired of reading that.

Tom Meyer: From the wiki:

Cub Scouting is the largest of the three programs, available to boys from first to fifth-grade or 7 to 11 years...

Boy Scouting is the flagship program of the BSA for boys ages 11 to 18.

Ah, I see.

Cadets marksmanship

Up here in Canuckistan, a kid would move up from Scouts to Venturers by then, and few kids stick with scouting once they're in high school.  If they're that serious about this sort of stuff, they're much more likely to join Cadets Canada, where they can actually get paid for participating.

That's right, the Canadian government teaches teenagers how to shoot rifles. Didn't expect that, didja?

(Ok, they're air rifles, but still ...)

I dunno if it's already been mentioned, cuz I ain't gonna go through all the comments, but the Free Parking house rule is not harmless.  In fact, it ruins the game.

A person can only win a game of Monopoly by bankrupting all the other players. As such, liquidity is a very important factor in the game.

By introducing free money for anybody that lands on Free Parking, you're extending the duration of the game, and it's already a game that takes a freaking long time to finish.

Why does the Free Parking house rule exist? Because most people who play Monopoly are families with children. When children play Monopoly, they aren't thinking about long-term strategy or asset management. They're most excited when they get free money, either by passing Go, or getting $10 in a beauty contest, etc.

Children totally miss the whole point of the game, which is purchasing and developing properties, and negotiating trades with other players.

So, parents allow the Free Parking rule because it keeps the younger players interested in the game.

But Monopoly isn't really meant to be a game for young children.

How do they know they're gay unless they're sexually-active?

The same way millions upon millions know they're straight before losing their virginity. · 16 minutes ago

I think Misthiocracy meant, how do OTHER people know they are gay?  The only way other people can know is if the young man announces it, or acts on it.

If so, I apologize for the snark.

But if one scout asks a buddy which girl he's taking to the HS dance, and the other replies "Actually, I'm really not into girls that way" does that constitute "announcing" it? · 15 minutes ago

What is the age range for Boy Scouts in the US?

I was finished with scouting by the time I was in high school.

Precisely.

Misthiocracy

I don't actually have a problem with admitting "gay" scouts.

I have a big problem with admitting sexually-active scouts.

How do they know they're gay unless they're sexually-active?

This is an organization for children!

flownover: 13 years before MTV showed it's face, music videos were alot longer .

How about Yellow Submarine and Magical Mystery Tour ?

Actually, in the 1960s the short "music video" (as we know it) was quite popular in Europe, thanks to the Scopitone company that manufactured and distributed movie "jukeboxes".

The "Love For Sale" video by Frank Sinatra Jr. was a Scopitone production.

Other famous ones include These Boots Are Made For Walking by Nancy Sinatra and Wonder Boy by Lesley Gore.

I love good music videos, in case you couldn't tell.

I wanted to become a music video director when I was at school.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

Today’s reporters want to be Woodward and Bernstein without the legwork. “Why should I read documents when I can just get a leaker?”

Um, Woodward and Berstein did precious little legwork, read no documents, and just got themselves a leaker.
