Indeed. That is Patou.

Take her aside, put your arm around her shoulders, and say: "Honey, do what you love. We'll support you in whatever you do."

In those cases where murder is committed in public and the forensic and circumstantial evidence are overwhelming, dragging these cases on for so long turns justice into a farce. Were the trials limited to matters of fact, it's hard to see how more than a few months would be necessary to collect evidence, select a jury, conduct a trial, and give jurors time to reach a sober verdict.

And having obtained a sober verdict, the murderer is executed in a timely fashion. I'm surprised that no one has suggested this. I guess that makes me the only bloodthirsty SOB among the Ricochetti!

I live on 40 acres with a 300 foot driveway. With my Glock 19 I have an effective range of 25 feet. With an AR-15 that's increased tenfold (with appropriate training, of course.) California prisons are falling over themselves to release non-violent felons. Need I say more?

TheSophist:

The theory is that while each criminal does bear the ultimate responsibility, one must take into account the tragedy of that individual and how society has done him wrong.

While I agree with this, it leaves unanswered this question: Why don't the anti-gun see the pro-gun as in need of gentle persuasion, rather than the hatred that seems to be the usual approach? Shouldn't society take responsibility for the situations that require us, the nasty and brutish pro-gun, to behave the way we do?

Illiniguy: What I'm looking for is a nice lightweight revolver which is simple to use.

The S&W 617 http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_765497_-1____ProductDisplayErrorView_Y would satisfy your criteria. Its very lightweight and shoots .22LR with virtually no recall. The only drawback is stopping power.

Here's an analysis that connects 9/11/2001, Afganistan and Bengazi that strikes me a very persuasive. http://frontpagemag.com/2012/dgreenfield/why-our-forces-were-told-to-stand-down-in-benghazi/

You did well, RJ. Only, nest time bring a cheap cigar for Hugh.

GreenCarder:  Yes it was long and yes some of the questions were irrelevant.

I'd be interested to know of what value/interest this was to the Ricochet management (I use the term loosely, to avoid insulting the guilty.)

Geoffrey Leach

A complete waste of money. An obviously generic survey, And Dave Carter? I love the guy, but to pick the least-frequent podcast is beyond foolish.

Geoffrey Leach

Sheesh.  The contract between a man and a woman has been called "marriage" for millennia. If the state wants to encourage that for some reason, then fine, although I would prefer it didn't.

As to the SSM crowd, there are two possibilities IMHO. Either they want the economic advantages conferred on conventional married couples, or they want to swipe the word "marriage". In the first case, fine. There's a procedure for that. In the latter, SSM may be something, but its not "marriage".

As to social value, Zafar, the use of the term suggests to me that you're a collectivist. You're welcome here, but you won't find many friends.

John Hanson: I think the old invisible hand of the market is not perfect, but likely better than any method tried by falible humans. · 13 hours ago

Two thumbs up! The history of government intervention in the market is one of abject failure.

James Pethokoukis: The pro-market aspects of NGDP targeting ...:· Aug 10 at 8:53am

I suggest that there are no pro-market aspects of NGDP targeting. Any policy that calls for the manipulation of the market by a government entity is fundamentally anti-market and anti-freedom.

Geoffrey Leach

BlueAnt: The first objection to NGDP targeting is the general point that top-down economic planning is doomed to failure.  Mises, Hayek, Friedman, Rothbard, take your pick; the arguments have been around, unrefuted, for decades. · Aug 9 at 7:49am

I suggest that these authors are beyond the intellectual capabilities of Prof. Sumner. Let him begin with "Economics In One Lesson." After he's mastered that he can go on to the mysteries of NGDP if he's so inclined.

Mickey, you would have been a better senator than Barbara Boxer, but not that much better.
