Devo Whip It

I always liked Land of Confusion, even if the politics were daft.

Rahm Emanuel, you [CoC violation] [CoC violation].

Central Scrutinizer: I am President Barrack Hussein Obama.

10 cents: I hate people with blank profiles. It leaves to much hate to the imagination. · 8 hours ago

Severely Ltd.: CS, would you fill out your profile. Seattle Sue filled hers out and it added another dimension to my hate for her. It would be wonderful to add body, lustre and sheen to my hatred of you also, but a foundation is lacking. I know you have it out for raccoons, but that's no basis for a relationship. · 16 minutes ago

The Rangers can't deal w/ the B's 4th line. Kevin Paul Dupont calls them the "Hunter/Gatherer Line" BTW. Sweet win.

The Pen[!]s are next.

Ron Jeremy blew Chunks in class today.

It is a bigger deal that that, though. Let's not confuse the minor order with the sacramental itself and who is allowed to perform it.

Many dioceses now have again appointed priests to the function of Exorcist. This happened only after JP II and Benedict reaffirmed the necessity of the practice.

BTW, it isn't just a Roman Catholic practice, of course. A LCMS pastor has a forthcoming book on exorcisms in Africa which have been performed by the Malagasy Lutheran Church (Madagascar).

KC Mulville: It's not that big a deal.

As some of you might know, the Catholic church has the sacrament of Orders. The holy orders are bishop, priest, and deacon.

But there are other orders, most notably the four minor orders, that of acolyte, exorcist, lector, and porter. .

When I was in the Jesuits, I received the minor ones. Yes, I was an exorcist.

Virginia splits tickets all the time, so this won't necessarily sink Cuccinelli.

I am, however, always a bit uneasy when ministers run for office, but if they step away from the ministry then that's OK. Also, I don't think it works really well for ordained clergy who receive a regular or sacramental calling -- e.g., Roman Catholics forbid it --  but let's leave that problem aside for now.

My unease goes way up with someone who claims consecration as a bishop. What happened to Jackson's second call as a bishop?

At this rate, Carney's next excuse will be that Obama was indeed a Kenyan and ineligible to be held accountable for anything done in his illegitimate Presidency.

Finally, someone around here who can play this game!

Thanks... I got what you meant.

Because they're also a research center and publish, we get the benefit whether we're a client or not.

Tom Meyer: My bad: I should have said:

[P]eople go to a fertility clinic because they'rehaving trouble having a baby, not because they're perfectly fertile but worried about the health of any early stage embryos whose lives might be created and ended without their knowledge.

One other point, selection of health and motility of both egg and sperm is done as a matter of course now in fertility clinics.

The genetics bit is beyond my ken. The science of gene expression isn't a simple deterministic model, so selecting two good matches wouldn't give necessarily give you a good result.

Tom Meyer: I'm being purely speculative, but perhaps we can pre-screen eggs so that only genetically healthy can be fertilized (still leaves the problem of what to do about sperm, I know). · 22 minutes ago

It is a misconception that people go to fertility clinics only because they cannot conceive. It is because they are having difficulty having children survive to term.

This may be for a variety of reasons post-conception which Langone does specific research on (http://www.nyufertilitycenter.org/news/2013/nyufc-study-finds-steet-technology-results-high-pregnancy-rate-low-multiple-gestation-and-).

Lots of other examples that try to minimize multiple births and miscarriages, which are also dangerous to the mother.

Amen...

On the first page of the punch list when I take over an IT shop? Formalize basic planned/unplanned outage and restoration communications. I have a basic template that lets the author and recipient know whether it is an "UP" or "DOWN" message. Phone trees and texts are used if email is down.

The main objection from IT staff? It holds me up from solving the problem! Well, if you don't have it fixed five minutes in, you probably won't have it fixed for at least 30 minutes.

Might as well take five more and let everyone know -- so they at least know that you know it is broken -- and clear your head.

Fake John Galt: You folks are running and interactive communication company.  Take that to heart, interact and communicate with us, we will love you the more for it.

Tom, a few responses to these three points:

  1. I'm not sure this first point is true (see below) and besides, it ignores an obvious rebuttal. Don't many prolifers get mocked for their warnings on such issues re: heavy contraception use and delayed childbearing?
  2. You are unaware of prolifers funding such research. Fertility is a point of emphasis at the NYC Langone Center (http://www.nyufertilitycenter.org/). FYI, Ken Langone was made a Knight of St. Gregory by Pope Benedict XVI.
  3. Human experiment protocols make such research very controversial and difficult in the first place. As you'll note from some of the Langone research, much of our knowledge is inferred from experiments done on other mammals.
  4. As suggested by the comments of KC and Katie, prolifers know how life begins very well and how it can be disrupted. What you call "resignation" is perhaps better classed "realism" about the difficulty in solving those early miscarriages.

Tom Meyer:  HOWEVER, pro-lifers express relatively little interest [in reducing high early pregnancy mortality rates]

Pro-lifers are funding this research and I am unaware of it;

Previous research into the matter indicated that nothing feasible can be done about it.

I've found that older women appreciate quality.

DocJay: Look out everyone, there's a large black man in this post. Run for your lives. On a side note, an older black gal just hit on my 18 year old son tonight. They have a date. She's college ROTC and they were both in uniform tonight. Beyond gorgeous too, where'd he get game like that? · 6 hours ago
