I agree that the Catholic church - and the entire Christian church in this country - is at a turning point because of the crisis that the federal government has created in its relations with Christian institutions. This is a to-be-or-not-to-be moment for Christians in America's civil society. What is now at stake is the status, freedom, and mission of the Christian church in the civil society. Defense of freedom and of the Christian church will have to be principled, continuous, and much more active and more broad in its engagement of all Christian and non-Christian stakeholders.
In my view, two of the most urgent tasks ahead of us are to strengthen public voices of the Christian community in the country and to grow closer contacts between various parts of the overall Christian community.  Christian courage and Christian love may be put to test. As Apostle Paul said: "Be on your guard, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love." (1 Corinthians 16:14).
