I feel terrible both for missing the meetup and not realizing it was national bourbon day!  Cheers to you all, I have some late celebrations to attend to.  :-)

Concretevol

My mom's advice was obviously flawed, many apologies!  :-)

I am very interested in your story.....unfortunately I even struggle with writing comments on Ricochet.   :-)  Keep the updates coming brother!

God Bless Felicia.....it's amazing that recovery from these kind of disasters can in many ways restore some faith in humanity.

Wow...just wow.

BrentB67: Don't threaten me with that slander. Politicians say whatever it takes to make people happy. I am a leader, I try to spend my time doing the right thing and simultaneously pissing everyone off. · 5 hours ago

Well said!!  FYI, I will be stealing that definition of a leader and claiming it as my own!

Byron Horatio: I'm actually going to wander off the Thomas Sowell reservation here and you can color me skeptical.  Just from my own experiences and word of mouth, there are a lot of people (particularly young people) who simply aren't willing to work unless they are making significantly above the market rate and wage.  They consider themselves above manual labor and want to go immediately into management from college.

So my argument against Thomas Sowell here is that even if the wages were higher or above the market rate for agriculture work, Americans still wouldn't do it.  · 6 hours ago

Also, many of them are too slothful and overweight to survive outdoor, working in the heat all day.

This will not change until we cut back on unemployment compensation. · 6 minutes ago

It is my experience that most of the Americans flocking to take those high paying manual labor jobs would promptly fail their pre-employment drug screen........so good luck with that.

Central Scrutinizer: I'm jealous. · 18 minutes ago

Of hippies or of snakes? In either case it's counterproductive unless you can convert that jealousy into hate. · 3 minutes ago

Snakes make nice boots. Do hippies? · 11 hours ago

I would much rather have a snake than hippie infestation.....

Monty Adams: The decidedly libertarian slant that the editors here have decided to take this site is the reason I will not be renewing my membership. How much libertarian paranoia do we need to promote on the main page per day?  · 13 minutes ago

That's interesting because the libertarian/conservative back and forth is one of the primary things I find enjoyable here.  There is no substantive debate to be had with liberals  at this point and I learn more from differing opinions than from an echo chamber.  I also wasn't aware that Fred Cole is an editor, although he is definitely paranoid about being called a hypocrite.

I think Dr. Sowell is primarily addressing how to decide on government policy, not how an individual farmer or company should behave.  What one does in a specific business example is not the same as how the country should formulate economic or immigration policies affecting that same business.  If you are in a competitive environment you can't put yourself at a disadvantage by deciding to pay all your employees $10 more an hour than everyone else in the hopes of attracting  American citizens.  Would you want to bet your house that more American's will do manual labor if only their pay was higher???

1,300 rounds??!?!?!  So that's where all the ammo is!

Concretevol

Yes, I think Rob's response to all questioning about his involvement with Ricochet are along the lines of "I can't recall".  :-)

I'm sure it's safe and just to be clear, any and all posts I may have made referring to firearms I own were purely hypothetical.
