Bio

Ironically, I was a liberal until I moved to New York City, the most liberal city in the universe. Then I began paying taxes, began worrying about terrorism, and spent time considering what an abortion actually entails.

Aw, poor Brienne of Tarth.

That's a really good point that the fact that "corporations" are not mentioned in the Constitution is not a reason for them not to be protected since "citizens" are not expressly protected either. What's protected is "speech."

On the other hand, the first amendment does state, "...the right of the people to peacably assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Does that mean that all those Catholic organizations that filed suit yesterday against the government not have standing? I feel like not even many liberals would argue that. Or would they?

I found it to be inspiring how many different ways the Yankees managed to sell ads during the game. "And now it's time for the French's Mustard 2nd inning trivia quiz!" Etc.

Boots on the Table

Paul-FB: A wonderful story which brought back memories of watching Tom's River play in the 1998 World Series, and yes I saw young Todd take the wind out of the sails, so to speak, of the Japanese team.   The game brought tears of joy to my eyes then, and now in rememberance.  I try and watch all the Little League World Series games, as the true boys of Summer, play the game with pure joy of sportsmanship. · 2 hours ago

Watching the game played for the "Love of the Game" is always more enjoyable and more inspiring than watching it played for the love of the money. · 3 hours ago

I was at the game last night sitting in the first row in fair territory behind left field. Actually, here's a picture of me:

Picture 2

So anyway, the game last night was a pitcher duel until the end. It was Andy Pettitte's second game since coming out of retirement, and he pitched 8 innings, as I recall. At 43-years-old (or there abouts), he still has a strong arm. Now, as a Maine native I'm actually a Red Sox fan, and I wasn't particularly rooting for either team last night. There was a little boy sitting next to me, though, in full Yankee garb with a baseball glove. I think he'd come down from a different row to sit closer to the field, because he didn't seem to have a parent. In any case, Bronson Arroyo gave up two home runs in the 8th inning, making the game 0-4. "There's no way the Reds can win, is there?" Asked the little boy.
"Well, it's unlikely, " replied. "But not impossible. Remember the 2004 ALCS."
"The?"
I looked at him again. "How old are you?"
"Seven."
"OK, so before you were born..."

That's definitely what's going to happen.

WillowSpring: I understand what the Breitbart article was saying about the Warren-like tendency to adjust his biography to meet his needs, but fully expect the MSM to ignore that and treat this as a rebirth of the birther questions which they feel they have sufficiently ridiculed already. · 3 minutes ago

That still doesn't show off his six pack.

Peter Robinson:  Bodies like mine don't just happen, you know.

But, Peter, it has been featured prominently on its own. For latecomers to the Ricochet Party, I present snapshots of the Robinson Family Vacation: · 3 hours ago

Is that Pethokoukis behind Rob?

Gentleman, to bed! For tomorrow, we tape a podcast at dawn. Well, dawn for Peter and Rob, but two hours after dawn for Lileks. To bed! For tomorrow we rise early, and we'll have a hearty breakfast. Then we'll get on Skype and tape a podcast. But first Rob's laptop will crash. Gentleman, to bed, for sometime tomorrow morning we podcast in Hell!

Mollie, which shop in Cobble Hill? I live next door in Carroll Gardens.

I believe that repealing the 17th would have a practical affect equivalent to term limits. I say this because I once looked at all of Chuck Schumer's predecessors. It turns out that the average length of service in Washington for the seat that Schumer now occupies was just over one term (7.27 years) until the passage of the 17th Amendment. As soon as the Amendment was passed, Senators started hanging around for longer. For instance, Robert Wagner served 22 years, Javits served 24 years (and they named a convention center for him), and D'amato was in for 18 years. Schumer's been Senator for 12 years (and do we really think we'll get rid of him any time soon?).

Pat in Obamaland: While I know this will have no practical effect on the general election, it could play an important role in the ongoing debate over direct presidential elections. Without Barry on the ballot in Arkansas, he likely won't have enough votes to take the overall national vote. · 13 hours ago

If Obama lost the Arkansas primary, and I don't think he will because the linked article says only that the race is close in one of the four congressional districts in the state, that doesn't mean he wouldn't appear on the ballot in Arkansas in November. He's still going to be the Democrat nominee and appear on the ballot in all 57 states.

I didn't know the kids who make these videos were siblings. I love the "Obama, ass-kicker" video from two years ago.

Albert Arthur

I'm confused. How is it private? Who's paying for it? How does it make a profit?

Albert Arthur

Great, you just jinxed it. Thanks a lot:-P

Chris Corrigan:  I told my wife in '96, "don't worry, Dole is going to win". And in '08, I told her, "there is no way an inexperienced community organizer is going to be a respected Senator and war hero".  So, I'm 0-2 in making presidential predictions, but that doesn't mean I am always going to be wrong.  Having said that, I am getting a vibe that 2012 is going to be a 2010-like Armageddon for Democrats (not just Obama). · 9 minutes ago
Albert Arthur

Yes, but how is he polling in the other three congressional districts in Arkansas?

Albert Arthur

Wasn't trying to start a fight;-)

Troy Senik, Ed.: Well, that wasn't any fun. Thanks, Albert ;) · 14 minutes ago
