After receiving her Masters in Speech Pathology, she moved around the world a bit, had three kids, then settled into the D.C. area working for a defense industry consultant, who does union workforce initiatives in support of DOD programs.  She has worked with both public and private union bosses, on the national and local levels, and concludes, we have nothing to fear.

She currently working on her next masters degree in clinical psychology and raising her kids. Or, reverse that.

She spends a disproportionate amount of her adult life analyzing Alien, and adores C.S. Lewis.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: That was a really long post to brag about Bruce Carroll following you

(OK, I would brag about it, too!) · in 1 minute

Like how I did that?

Functionary: Oh.  I fell for it too.  It's not true?!

Thayt's a relief.  It's good to know that we can still look forward to anti-gravity skateboards  in the future. · 1 minute ago

The future is lie.  I site all futuristic novels, and the screenplay for 2010.

Functionary: What was the error?  Why did the "Back To the Future" fans become unhinged?  The world wonders. · 1 minute ago

I fell for the ol' "Today is the day Marty McFly went back to the future" ruse.  It's still getting retweeted as we speak.

I wonder, what would Twain think of Twitter?

Here is a thought. The Roman Catholic Church will not marry a couple until they have gone through what is called Pre-Cana, which can take up to six months. The point is to make the couple consider what they are doing and to explore whether their goals are compatible. When done right, it is sobering. The Church will not marry those cohabiting. · 1 hour ago

Does the Pre-Cana help in keeping the marriage together?

"Whether we like it or not, the law is a moral teacher. No-fault divorce teaches the insignificance of the marriage vows"

I've not read any hard data on this, but I surmise the NFD is part of why we've seen the largest increase yet in the number of couples co-habitating prior to marriage.  It is the logical outcome of devaluing marriage, which NFD does.  As an aside, it was harder to adopt my cat, than it was to get a marriage license.  Might it be in the states best interest to restrict how one gets married? I don't know how or what that would look like, but it should be at least slightly more challenging than getting a pet at Petco.

"The most disturbing thing about this poll has to be the 56% of people who go to the internet for relational advice, rather than a trusted friend or family member."

Because Penelope is that good. · 6 minutes ago

I meant to caveat that statement with, "Except of course for Penelope."  She is quite good.

Matthew K. Tabor: "Not sure who these people are" who are comfortable dating outside their faith?

They're people like me, Ms. Efferson.

My girlfriend is an Israeli Jew -- Mizrahim, Iraqi mother / Yemenite father -- and I'm a redneck cracker American Christian with t-shirts like one that says "Guns 'n Moses."

I accommodate every bit of her faith and it's a source of enjoyment in our relationship. We both have a wonderful time with it. I did the Passover clean of my apartment and removed all chametz; she doesn't care that I like bacon double cheeseburgers.

And if it progresses to the point of marriage/babies, I'll be quite happy and proud to have a little rabble of Jewish tykes running around, provided they have their mother's stunning looks and their father's good sense. · 6 minutes ago

My commentary wasn't an indictment on dating outside ones faith, as much as, I think that percentage seems really high.  But I'm curious, what's your take on the verse in the bible that talks about not being unequally yoked?  I think you're comments merit a broader discussion about christian beliefs.

Couldn't agree more Troy.  I am old enough to remember when California wasn't being run into the ground by abusive progressive policies, and I'm cheering for day when the great state might restore sound fiscal management.  In the mean time I say let bad policy fail, and fail spectacularly, so as not to be soon forgotten.

And let's not forget, there is no barrier to receiving services for these students.  It's not as though the only option they have is a student counselor who would rather opt out of treating them on religious grounds.  They have access to, in some cases, an entire staff of university psychologists and usually at least one psychiatrist.

That is what I would expect of the thoughtful people who read and comment on this site. But what is going on with those who do buy this sort of thing? · 46 minutes ago

I would only be speculating, but I think there are certain pockets of women who equate proud immodesty with female empowerment.  Honestly, it's a played out theme.  I'm not sure what else we can learn from Naomi on this subject.

In all seriousness, how bad does it have to get before this guy cancels a trip?
