What's a third of a meter called? How about a quarter of a meter? A twelfth or sixth of a meter. Our measurements work for real people. When I'm doing science work with frequency and wavelength I use the metric system 'cause it's just easier.
Agree. BTW, we kind of gave up on marriage about 40 years ago. It hardly means anything anyway. Not in our hearts, but operationally as you see the out-of-wedlock birth rate, marriage just isn't happening with the strength it had in the past.
~Paules: Later this afternoon I'll be interviewing by phone with Abu Dhabi. If I get the position, I'll be Ricochet's first economic refugee. Anyone know where I can get children's books in Arabic? · 37 minutes ago
You'll find English speaking schools in Abu Dhabi. They'll sale children's books in Arabic too.
I posted a comment like this to a blog on what to do now about a month or so ago. Was told it was too hard. Been trying to push it in my Kansas town.
But if we don't start now then when? As you discuss real issues with most all Americans we all seem to want the same things. Better life for our kids and a chance at retiring before we drop dead on the job. An opportunity center would give real hope to those who don't really know how to escape generational poverty.
Our biggest theme should be the family values sub-set of two parent families as both the most moral and economical way to have and raise kids.
We also need to stress the morality of capitalism, which gets the best suited folks to work on the jobs that need doing 'cause someone is willing to pay for them.
Alternatively, we can be more like Europe. Pick yer poison, Mr. Robinson. · 3 hours ago
I simply cannot wait to become smarter and more attractive and start wearing ascots like these beautiful European people pictured in the article. · 2 hours ago
You don't see that their walking to the RR station as they can't afford gas. They just left their 600 sq ft apartment with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. They have heaps of vacation time, to spend walking hand-in-hand down their unpaved road to nowhere.
I've never thought the multiculturalism ethos that all cultures are equal stood up to any type of head-to-head analysis. When I've ask proponents of multiculturalism to create a matrix of cultures in the columns and cultural attributes in rows, by their goodness quality, then to conduct across column comparisons they run away.
Are their better ways to approach discussing this subject?
The left is using the homosexual equalization effort to drive wedges between our values and our institutions. With our rates of divorce and out of wedlock births we have ceded the moral high ground to allow this issue to spread. What is the point of marriage anyway? Now that marriage is lost what ground is left to for the BSA to stand on?
Why have a drinking age at all. Those who want to start at 12 do it anyway, getting into the folks beverage closet. Let parents and businesses decide how they want to handle it. Same with regulation of the beer, wine, and distilled products industry, why do it, we don't regulate HFCS.
Is it time for the people with the right to keep and bear Arms to conduct a million armed people march on Washington? Seems what every other group does.
Someone on a different thread mentioned a "first annual Ricochet conference." I would try to go. It would be about articulating conservatism, supporting each other, and having fun. · 1 hour ago
Yes, I think the meetups are a start in this direction--and I think this could be really fun. But whatever we do, let's not schedule it, like so many think tanks, in DC or New York. Please. Let's find a reasonably conservative metropolitan area (or backwoods, fine by me!) to hold it.
A long time ago, on a website not so far far away, before the dark times and before the "we might fold" posts, there was a discussion about a Ricochet cruise. That might be another worthwhile option, depending on price.
I like ~Paules' concept of the "Ricochet hostel" or at the very least Ricochet members hosting guests in their area (maybe to dinner or something). · 6 hours ago
Ricochet cruises should take place on Aircraft carriers. Just sayin'. · 18 hours ago
I have years cruising on Aircraft Carriers, and it wasn't fun. The port calls are fun. I really like cruise ships much better.
Kyra Sedwick as Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson in the closer. Until the last season the writing was witty with injections of humor and drama from her personal life. Most of the first 94 episodes were inventive and surprising in the "Who Done It" vain.
Re: How Are You Celebrating Hitler's Birthday This Year?
Frankly, nothing about Hitler comes to mind in my normal life. If I had to celebrate anything about him it would be is belated death.
