There are several tunes that evoke different eras in my life - "Sounds of Silence" was in my college years, "Gloria", "Wild Thing"  remind me of my dating time, but the most powerful is the "Pachelbel Canon".  For years, it was a very calming sound for me.  Then, as my wife and I drove our 17 year old Brittany Spaniel to the vet for what was going to be a one way trip for him due to serious health issues, it happened to come on the radio.  I haven't been able to hear it since without tearing up.

My sentimental favorite is Ardbeg Kildalton.  I say sentimental, since I have never tasted it.  It was $920 a bottle before it sold out.  The reason for the sentiment is that our oldest Scottish Deerhound's official name is "Ardbeg Kildalton D'Lux" (Her call name is "Willow")   The tradition of the breeder was that the puppies had to have the name of a Scotch Whiskey and the kennel name (D'Lux).  Ours was an "A" litter, so Ardbeg it was.  Kildalton comes from the Kildalton cross which is on the Isle of Islay where Ardbeg is made.

I have had other Whiskey from the Ardbeg range and was surprised at the difference that the traditional "drops" of water made to the smoothness.  They are very peaty, but I like that.

A trip to the liquor store usually involves looking through the Scotch Whiskey shelves to see how many deerhounds I know who are represented there

Joseph Paquette:

"I consider the 'science' of climatology a pseudo-science.  It's based on observation not experiments. "

NeoLibertarian:

The models are the only way to test the theory.

and:

For those playing along at home, that's Latin for: show me the model that works.

=====

Since models are so important, "Science" requires that the  underlying data and the methodology used in the models are shared freely so any problems can be worked out in public.  The total opposite describes what is happening with the main stream "climate scientists".  In fact, the typical reaction to a request for details from any skeptical researcher is "Why should I give you something so you can look for a problem?"

As currently practiced, Climate Science is more of a cult.

"Pragmatic Thinking and Learning - Refactoring your Wetware" by Andy Hunt.  This is a programmer oriented view (but I think pretty accessible to anyone) of how to take advantage of how the brain works in order to be more intuitive and effective.

On deck : "Coolidge" by Amity Schlaes.  I just finished "The Forgotten Man" by her about the depression.  I was astounded at how many parallels there were between that time in our history and now

Square foot gardening is a great way to get a start.  Among other things, the weeding is manageable.  In our first house on a 1/4 acre lot, we had built an 8'x8' sandbox for the kids and when they outgrew it, turned it into a square foot garden and it was perfect.

Now, we have 3.5+ acres - part of an old farm - and it is very easy to start a garden in the spring too large to keep up with later in the year.

I second the suggestion of a small tiller.

Our main 'predators' are mice in the early part of the season when we are starting seeds indoors and Groundhogs outside once the tomatoes are ripe.  Deer generally hold off until the apples are ripe

Good luck

congratulations, I hope the new job gives you more time to write.  That is your true calling.

I am afraid that my frustrated attempts don't deserve such praise.

Not to side track the point of the thread, but Watt's site is one of the best antidotes to the MSM hysteria about human caused Global Warming.

" Confusing form obscures a lot and, therefore, is a useful tool."

A depressingly cynical response - and that's why I think you are probably right.

10 cents:

The TF101 is now 2 versions back and has been upgraded twice - I think the latest version is the TF103.  I am not sure if the 103 has the latest Android version (Jelly Bean) or not.  One selling feature for me with the TF101 was that it has an optional keyboard/cover.  The keyboard attaches at the bottom of the screen and basically, you end up with a small laptop.  It adds several ports that are not in the TF101 itself, but a significant feature of the keyboard is that it has an added battery that significantly increases the runtime.  I often use that when I will be at a conference or somewhere where sitting by a plug may not be an option.

I think that the newer versions have the same keyboard or the equivalent.  One thing that I would check is if the new version had the GPS.  I remember some issue with that.  (It is in the 101)

I would say that the Nexus 7 is fine for consuming content, but the TF series would be better if you are going to generate much

Hope this helps.

I have a Nexus 7.  I got it for doing Android development, since it has the latest version of Android, but I also use it for Web browsing and looking at recorded conference videos.  I use it for note taking in meetings - using Evernote - since that will synch across multiple devices.  The keyboard is ok for me to use for typing, but I also have an ASUS TF101 10" tablet which I use more often when I think I will input lots of data in a portable setting.

The size is a little too big for a normal pocket, but much better of an experience for most viewing than the iPhone and easier to carry around than the 10" tablet.

The Kindle App works fine - the screen is a little smaller than a paperback, but is very clear and the light weight is nice compared to the 10" tablet.

I got the "Slim Fit" leather case which in addition to protecting the screen has a stand (ok, not adjustable) automatically puts the tablet to sleep when closed.  I love that.

There was extra material in both links.  The first had "http://ricochet.com/%20" at the start and the second had an extra space ( "%20")  at the end.   If you delete the extra in either, the link works.  Here it is with the edit

"I have not been an active poster on Ricochet, preferring to read and digest the work of others more experienced and articulate."

That's your only mistake in this post.  You should post more often.

At this point, the Main Stream Media is the front line of the Liberal attack on our country.  Conservative values won't win without destroying their power.  I no longer think they can be flanked effectively.

Look at how the MSM coverage of the convention preserved the fiction of the Republican party as all "old white men"

I wish Romney had been more forceful in directly attacking them.  In particular, during the debates when it would have been difficult to manipulate.  Being polite in the face of Candy Crowley's clear bias, for example, was a major mistake.

#19 may be the reason, but as I think Dick Morris has said the best campaign strategy for an incumbent President is to do Presidential things.  I just don't think he is up to it on any serious level.

We are seeing the consequence of unthinking, continual affirmative action.

Sounds like a perfect project for Kickstarter

oops - too much time formatting the link :-(
