13/13, but I wanted to call BS on the CO2 question. I gave the PC answer and feel a little guilty about it.

BTW, I am a raving creationist/tea partier. Can it be that I also know more than 93% of the population about science? I wonder how many journalists have taken this quiz.

Excellent post, Peter. I have the latest CRB on my nightstand and will get to this tonight. I work in higher education on the staff side and I am quite confident that my political views will, at some point in my career, be a liability. I have 30 years to retirement and I expect quite a minefield. I often wonder if my NRA sticker is going to get me fired. Certainly my views on gay marriage would be a huge problem if uttered.

Stephen

Rick, I like you again! Just kidding. Great post.

Stephen

Just hit the jar. Good luck!

Mona, thank you for shining the light of common sense on this. My wife just left the workforce after a dozen years to be home with our son. You are right, the world does not need another accountant, but my son needs his mother. Bravo!

Stephen

Way to go! Glad you have the courage to engage.

My military family members say Hagel's confirmation endangers their lives. 'Nuf said. Paul doesn't have to be a hawk to support our troops when they are already committed to the battlefield. I will never vote for him.

These stories have been around for years and there is simply no outrage at all. I find it odd. If I was a parent of a student at either of these colleges, I would be in the President's office going ape-crazy. But, in their minds it would only confirm their pre-existing biases about me: closed minded, bible-thumping hick. You can't win with these people. It is quite simple; you are wrong and they are right. There is no discussion.

I have the same issue at my church when they act like carbon reduction and recycling are somehow Christian acts. I prefer helping the poor and spreading the gospel, as proper roles for the church.

I am a Methodist, but I feel certain in a decade or less I will have to walk out and find something else. I've even pondered the Catholic Church, but the whole social justice thing is a turnoff. So, lately, is gun control.

Why must the traditional denominations drive people into the arms of the evangelicals? I don't want my pastor to wear a Hawaiian shirt, but hey, maybe that's where I'm headed.

Birth control is the tool, not the cause (except in the case of hormone-related infertility). The causal factors are career, leisure, success in the same way a man is successful, and above all INDEPENDENCE. Having children ties women to the home, to the man, and to others. She doesn't have the freedom she has been promised by society that she can have. Birth control enables her to have freedom and her own financial security. Having a lot of children means you're dependent on a man to support you. Women today don't want to rely on men.   · 1 hour ago

INDEPENDENT is one way to put it. Lonely is another.  They are often the same. Society overvalues work. Most people are easily replaceable at their jobs, but they are always irreplaceable as mothers. It's the one thing in the world no one else can do.

You are doing the right thing. Our son was born in August and my wife planned to return to work. She was never at peace with the decision, so she negotiated an extra month of unpaid leave, but ultimately resigned.

As for the social things, she seeks that out less than she expected. She LOVES being with our son and its fun. Sure, its hard, no question, but its also quite beautiful. I never truly appreciated women until I saw my wife and son staring into each other's eyes. They laugh and cuddle while she feeds him. There is nothing like this in the world, nothing.

My wife is still in her book club (monthly). She visits other moms who are also at home. Technology helps, too. She uses Facetime, texts, and calls people more often.  They come visit me at work some.

One big tip - get your shower early. If you never get out of your PJs you never get out of the house. We make a point to get up and help each other in the mornings. When I leave for work my wife is showered and dressed for the day. This is HUGE.

I predict "Lift Every Voice and Sing."

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.

The correct libertarian answer is that

There isn't a correct libertarian answer here, Mollie.  It's not a libertarian question.

The decisions of a private club of their membership policy, in the absence of any coercion by any governmental entity, is just not a libertarian question.

Libertarianism covers the proper scope (if any) of  a government (if any).

That was my point. You said the BSA hadto do something. I disagreed. Then you said that everything has to adapt to the culture and that this is how you thrive. I disagreed with that too. · 2 minutes ago

What I said was merely an aspect of how markets work.

The BSA, or any organization, be is civic or religious or a business, or any individual, needs to adapt to market conditions in order to survive.

Well, the market conditions have changed and specifically excluding gays is no longer a sustainable thing for any organization that wants to continue to thrive.

And that goes for churches too.  Mark my words, ten years from now, fifteen at most, churches will have adapted their theology so that homosexuality stops being an issue. · 1 hour ago

Consider them marked.

Mona - broken link on "bogus."

Editor: Should be fixed now. Thanks.

None. Even the ATF director. Abolish the ATF and you don't have to worry about it.

In the last 30 days I have:

1. Joined the NRA

2. Taken a pistol safety and shooting course

3. Applied for a concealed carry permit

I'm 35 and used to think the above three things would never happen. I always thought my brother, a lifetime NRA member, was a little paranoid. No longer. I will be buying more guns (I have three now) and more ammo each month as I get paid.

Because Tommy Thompson was so awesome. More establishment pics, please! At least Angle had the guts to run and speak her mind. I'd take her over a lot of people. If the GOP machine would help people like her with messaging and polish instead of laughing at them, they might be in the majority right now.
