Re: Military Sexual Assault and the Conservative Response
Midget Faded Rattlesnake
But can we leave aside a blurry definition of sexual assault?
Any woman who's been to college recently can tell you that the definitions of rape and sexual assault have been broadened to the point where young women can find themselves honestly confused about whether they've been raped or not, whether they've been assaulted or not. Now, most girls are still too sensible to buy into hopelessly vague definitions of sexual crime. But the few girls who do buy into those definitions, or who do find themselves confused by them, risk bringing down a world of hurt onto the people around them.
I would hope that the military hasn't adopted anything close to the mystifying definitions of sexual crimes cultivated on many college campuses. But to be honest, I'm more pessimistic about this than I'd like to be. · 15 hours ago
That's the issue. The definition is pretty straightforward in the Manual for Courts-Martial, but what is put out in instruction is broadened every year or so. I'm afraid that we're getting some bleed-over from the outside, a la your college example.
