Can you describe what happens?  And what browser and operating system are you using?

Thanks!

10 cents: BSA,

How does it work with Ricochet? · 8 minutes ago

Quite well.

I am posting from it (the Nexus 10) now, and the TinyMCE edit field actually works.  This is probably due to the fact that Chrome is the default browser on this device and probably has proper support for the features TinyMCE needs.

We try to detect the mobile browsers and present a plain-text input form instead of the TinyMCE input form, but this is not foolproof.  New devices come out all the time, so our detection rules always need updating.

The user experience is also pretty unsatisfying, but at least it works for basic commenting.

Modus Ponens: Unfortunately the problem persists... I skimmed through the page source looking for the plugin that is used to provide the editing and text formatting features for the website. I found references to TinyMCE and checked out its website. On that site, they have a working demo of TinyMCE in which you can edit and format text in a field similar to the one provided on Ricochet for comments and new posts. I tried out the demo, and sure enough I had the same problem with formatting and entering text. There seems to be some compatibility issue with TinyMCE and the tablet browsers. I'm not sure exactly what is causing the problem: it could be an issue with Javascript for all I know.If that is the problem, then there is likely no way to fix it without an update for the browsers being released.

The problem is that touch-screen browsers have a different concept of "focus" (having the input when you click on something) from a desktop browser-- at least, for non-standard input fields like the TinyMCE edit box.

And yes, we can't do anything about it until the browsers support a particular feature.

The Nexus 10 is a beautiful piece of hardware, with a screen that rivals or beats the Retina display.  If you want a slightly bigger form factor, the Nexus 10 is hard to beat.  Just got one here.

This podcast episode was mistakenly marked as "hidden" in our system, and thus caused some problems with accessing parts of it.

I've fixed the problem-- enjoy!

The Intel tab is an ambitious experiment, and it is probably coming back.  I agree that lack of good search and tagging functionality was the biggest shortcoming.  We were working on the tagging part but that work was sidelined by other things.  We decided to pull the Intel tab down until we could address these issues properly.

We've given something like this quite a lot of extensive thought.  Where the problem lies is in execution and staffing.  While Ricochet is doing OK, we don't have an army of developers.  We're still implementing some ideas that we had two years ago.

Another idea would be to take the talking points, arguments and data from the Left and in encyclopedic format (Wikipedic format?) show how to refute them.

DocJay: I thought I'd mention here, since we have some folks attention, that my post on fearing the government was pulled from the main page presumably because someone thought me saying I'd die if the Feds began handgun seizure was over the top. No editor copped to the demotion though... I am surprised no one had the guts to say why that wasn't OK though. First they came for the DocJay's...

DocJay, please do not jump to conclusions.

As I pointed out here, there was a technical glitch with the conversation, whereby over 40 comments ended up deleted.  I had to pull the conversation off the Main Feed and lock down new comments while I restored them, one by one, which was painstaking and took some time.  I re-enabled comments when I was done, but I believe I forgot to re-promote the conversation to the Main Feed.

My apologies for the error.  I was unaware until now (due to negligence/forgetfulness) that it did not get back onto the Main Feed.  This had nothing to do with the content of your post or with any editorial action.

Busy System Admin

Sorry, there was a technical glitch, and it took me a while to rectify.

Busy System Admin

Claire, we all do miss your presence here on Ricochet!

Unfortunately, our Google search box only indexes the public part of the site.  That means it doesn't reach posts on the Member Feed unless they have by chance been linked to from outside the site.

We've got plans to restore an internal search engine that fell out of date over time and had to be pulled down.  That one, along with a tagging system, will make it much easier to find existing content.

Busy System Admin

Everything looks good on the server side.  Sometimes the site may load slower for some people than others due to network issues beyond our control.

Also, for a quicker response, please alert us at support@ricochet.com instead of posting on the Member Feed.  I see those emails coming in, whereas I do not monitor the Member Feed on a regular basis.

Let us know there if you continue to have problems.  Thanks!

tabula rasa: BSA needs to think about how his words come across.

To the Ricochet Suits:  Is is part of your business plan for your website administrator to hector and insult your customers?  I doubt it.  But that's just what happened.

It's not their plan, it's my thoughtlessness.

Please accept my apology.  And I'll refrain from political topics on the site again.

Busy System Admin

For everyone who has read this far in the thread, please understand that whatever I said so far is the opinion of this person, not official policy of Ricochet by any means.

We do not have plans to create a Spanish Ricochet or Ricochet tab.
