Teaching a course on Roman History at 25? I feel thoroughly unaccomplished.

How will the issue ever come to the Supreme Court if they just chose not to review it? Serious question; I don't know anything about how this works.

That sounds exactly right. Get your grocery shopping done by Friday at noon or you're going to have a hungry few days ahead of you.

Agreed entirely.

Something has happened to Bill maher in recent months. I'm not sure what it is, but he has obviously become disillusioned with certain aspects of liberalism.

Google "Margaret and Ron" and click through. I believe Google pays for its users to be able to access content behind the paywall.

You know she did something great when she is remembered more for her policies than the fact that she was a woman.

Fred Cole:

I also do not consider myself a speeder and consider speeding to be very dangerous and in many cases immoral in its recklessness towards others.

This, to me, is at odds with the principles of libertarianism. It is impossible for the government to know everyone's driving ability and the capabilities of their car better than they themselves know. They impose an arbitrarily low speed limit in the name of promoting safety, but of course the costs of these laws are always hidden. One way to reveal them is the following thought experiment: A nationwide 10 mph speed limit would surely reduce the number of automotive fatalities to near zero. Would this be desirable?

I positively detest speed limits. Perhaps this is because I'm from New Jersey, where the speed limits are so ludicrously low that no one respects them and the police never enforce them. (Some sections of the Jersey Turnpike are 40 mph, the average motorist in the left lane is doing 80+, I regularly hit 90 and have never, ever been pulled over for speeding.)

But woe unto you if you take this very sensible approach to driving down to the great state of Virginia, where anything over 80 mph ANYWHERE in the state (yes, even in a 70 mph zone) is considered "reckless driving!" This is misdemeanor on the same level as a DUI -- if convicted, your details go into the national criminal database and everything. Ask me how I know!

No, Mickey's plan would not go down well with me, but I fully acknowledge that I am in the "minority" (heh heh... heh) here on ricochet and in the Republican party.

EITHER illegal immigrants have, by immigrating illegally, committed some moral transgression and they deserve at the very least to be deported, if not imprisoned

OR the law, which limits immigration to educated, lucky, or connected foreigners, is itself immoral, and these illegal immigrants are in the right. No?

Can we have a running report of the median ages for each position?

1. 25. Same qualifier as Aaron Miller.

Adrian: the freshman writing course is everywhere now. IMHO, it's an exercise in futility to try to teach someone how to write in one semester if they haven't learned in 4 years of high school, but that's just me.

About 2 hours after I sent the letter, at around 4:30 AM, I received this:"Jan-Michael your response is duly noted..David Bowles Sent from my iPhone"Maybe I wasn't the only one to lose sleep over this.

Mostly good content, mostly good delivery. He was sweating and fidgeting, a bit, and of course there's the water thing. Would have been better if, before reaching for it he had said, "excuse me for a moment, it's very hot under these lights" and then gone for the water. For some reason people giving speeches feel the need to be artificial to the breaking point. See: Obama's overwrought "CITIZENS!!!" line.Steve Jobs was the only guy I can think of who could deliver a speech naturally.

Why have you seen him at other times? If the remote runs out of batteries, you can use the buttons on the TV.
