I wonder if there is a link to what's happening in Sweden.

I think O is learning that community organizing doesn't work on a national level.

Roberto: There does seem to be a sea change with a least half of this nation not simply embracing looser morality but complete amorality. These polls bring to mind another story I came across recently:

Steven Hunt and tens of thousands of online supporters are asking prosecutors to drop the case against Hunt's daughter. Eighteen-year-old Kaitlyn Hunt was arrested in February related to what her father said was a consensual same-sex relationship with another student who was 14.

Perhaps there are others but this is the first case I have seen where tens of thousands are openly and proudly endorsing pedophilia. I find that rather amazing.  · 6 hours ago

18 and 14?  That's a little out of range, but pedophilia?  Just turned 18 and almost 15 might be one or two days from qualifying for the "Romeo and Juliet" exception to statutory rape laws in a lot of states (they're typically a 3 year spread).  I'm not saying I'd encourage it, but it doesn't necessarily mark the 18 year old as a pedophile. · 2 minutes ago

I'd accept your apology but, alas, I live in California as well.

I suppose I should pile onto your countrywide apology as she continues to keep using her "I'm not so smart" card. You can't help but be stunned and amazed.

In the end, it boggles the mind that she keeps getting re-elected.

On the previous thread by Denise, I almost asked what the breakdown of the assaults were but the tone was pretty well set by the time I posted.

The social engineering with the military continues to show progress.

This report is not surprising.

flownover: How do you unwind that one ? There are two ways I know of. A vote of the members or a bankruptcy to bust it.

Other than an amendment to the constitution ( that would be sweet !), I can't imagine getting rid of this problem . · 0 minutes ago

Not sure. There has to be a way though. They should all be put back on the civil service track.

Here's a small little history of how we got there in California.

In the end, probably through the amendment process. But if the state ever files for bankruptcy well then....

Federal and state worker unions should be busted up and banned.

This is one of the bigger items undermining our Republic and my State of California. It has created a corrupt relationship between politicians (see: liberal Democrats) and unions to the point where what is good for each supersedes what is good for the country/state/city.

In California, it's driving towns/cities/counties towards bankruptcy if not to the actual filing of. And I'm not ruling out a state wide collapse either. Gov Brown keeps yelling how good he's doing and the news outlets say how good we're doing which means to me that we may not be doing all that great.

I agree that liberalism is like a virus. Once in the system, it manifests itself as group think where, yeah, it's plausible that lower level staffers can imagine taking the initiative on their own.

But I don't know. I can't imagine lower level staff putting O in jeopardy because they thought they were doing him an unasked favor. Anybody that goes off that reservation at the level, doing the things they were doing has to know what's at risk for them. Why would they do it? If they get away with it ok but if they get caught? Egads.

The only way I see it happening is the lower staffers take the initiative, upper management hears about it and passes it onto the WH. Once there. they decide to kill it or go with it. In these 3 cases, they decided to go with it.

I don't know. Everywhere O has been, it's been wrought with bad luck for the other fellow. I don't believe those were coincidences.

I think he's played this game many, many times but, through hubris, I think he's played in too many sandboxes this time.

That's a bit of my doing because I asked the questions at the end how conservatives should respond to sexual assault issues in the military (mainly the real aspects of it), and whether we should avoid "blaming the woman" rhetoric. But the point about false reports is noted--though it's hard to tell what's true, what's false, what's an unwanted kiss, what's assault, and what's rape. Complicated. But we do know sexual assault does happen--not just in the military. It's true these sexual issues wouldn't even be a factor if women weren't in the military. But they are, so we have to deal with the issues. Unfortunately. · May 19, 2013 at 3:42pm

This issue was bound to bubble up because the left cannot help but become social engineers regarding the military. They have opened Pandora's box and like locusts they have moved onto the next problem that needs their brilliant minds.  To do deal with the issue, I only see one thing that can happen: no women in combat. It's that simple. Good luck with that.

To better understand the report I would like suggest 2 things to fully contemplate:Phyllis Schlafy's comment in the context with which she delivered it and comments from those who serve in the military. This thread seems to have gotten off the rails as to what the report suggests, which is false complaints of sexual abuse in the military are rising at a faster rate than overall reports of sexual assault, a trend that could harm combat readiness.

As far as the pope's comments, as Western C. mentioned, they will be picked up by the social justices. That's unfortunate but they're always going to pick up any morsel they can and if they can't find a morsel they'll make one up. It's the way of their world.

I'm more interested to see what the pope has to say, in the context of what he said yesterday, directed specifically towards the US. I'm guessing you'll hear it couched in different language.

I don't have_a_problem_with_what_he_said._So_nothing_to_face.

This is the problem that many of us are wrestling with. Catholics are simply insufficiently supportive of free-market economics. Is it any wonder that so many struggling third world countries are Catholic?

We need Catholics on board in order to prevail in this fight and when the Pope himself makes remarks undermining Conservatism, it is maddening. · 1 minute ago

I'm as conservative as they come. I find the phrase, within and without the Catholic Church, "social justice" to be used by the left in disingenuous ways to advance their agenda. They use it in the same way they use the environment. They're always wrapping themselves up in cloaks of sorts.

I think the majority of Catholics are on our side of the fence. However, to get more of them, we need to unravel 40 years of bad pastoralship. I believe this is the fight the Acton Institute and Fr. Sirico are engaged in and they do an excellent job. But there's more to do.

Of course, there will always be those that will never see the light. They are gone. They are drones of the left.

Salvatore Padula: 3rd angle- Jesus was born in 1 AD. That's more than four decades after Caesar's death. You can include Christ as head of the Church, but Christ explicitly eschewed politics. To the extent that the Church in any meaningful sense became a political force it's hard to see an argument for that happening prior to Constantine's conversion. As to the point about flawed humanity, my entire point is that the Church's involvement in politics has largely been a bad thing, both for the Church and for politics. · 16 minutes ago

It just hit me. I'm an idiot. Pontius Pilate, I meant. Hahahaha. Sorry for thick head and thanks for your patience. I'm going to go crawl under my desk now.

While this speech is certainly damaging in the US where we're fighting a rear-guard action against Leftism, it is even more destructive in Catholic third-world countries that will suffer much greater privation from Leftist policy. · 3 hours ago

Yeah. That's right Severely. Ltd. He's damaged the US in ways Obama could ever dream to do.

I didn't evenimplyhe was worse than Obama, much less say it. I can understand Catholics being upset on this thread, they have every reason to be. But direct it at the Vatican. Demand a clarification, if not a retraction.

We're trying to move this country andthe world in a free-market direction. What he said was not a bit helpful. Face it. · 2 hours ago

I think you miss my point. All I was trying to do was to point out what I thought was an exaggeration. I don't think he damaged anything and I don't think there is anything you can point to that has been damaged. That's all.

I'm not asking for a clarification nor a retraction.

Enter? It's been smack dab in the middle since its inception. Julius Caesar and the Sanhedrin anyone? It's outlasted all forms of government for 2000 years. 2000 years! Boggles the mind.

You're right that the Church has a long tradition of being ivolved in politics, but I have two points I'd like to add.

1) I'm not sure the involvement goes back quite as far as you've asserted. Julius Caesar was killed in 44 BC.

2) I think the Church's involvement in politics has not been uniformly, or even mostly, a positive thing. For example, Thomas Becked was pretty clearly on the wrong side of his his dispute with Henry II, Pope Gregory IX probably shouldn't have proclaimed Emperor Frederick II  the Antichrist when the had a disagreement about the border between the Kingdom of Sicily and the Papal States, and it strikes me as somewhat inappropriate for Alexander VI to use Church resources to provide his son with a private army. · 3 hours ago

I'm including Jesus as head of the Church.
