Thank you for your comment. We all enjoyed the convoy of veterans on their motorcycles on Saturday.  It was a lovely sight to see.  My kids thought it was "Rolling Thunder."

jarhead: A good friend who was a retired career Marine passed away two years ago, and is buried at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.  For the Wreaths Across America ceremony this year, his widow rode her Harley up there.  It was an awesome experience.

As KP said above, "It sure puts things in perspective." · 4 hours ago

It is a very good reality check and I thought a great experience for all, especially the kids.

Keith Preston: I did this a few years ago in my hometown of Alton, Illinois.  It was quite moving to do this for heroes of Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Saipan, Normandy, Chateau Thierry, Belleau Wood, Gettysburg, Shiloh, etc. etc.

It sure puts things in perspective and keeps one appreciating the ultimate sacrifice they made long ago so that I can freely belly-ache about the price of gasoline and the terror of a "fiscal cliff."

I left feeling small...and grateful.  It's a good reality check. · 6 hours ago

Tis the season. Cornish pixies are deserving as well.

Wait, what? Santa a myth? I suppose next you'll be telling me Obama's not really a White Sox fan. I'm leaving out milk and cookies anyway - whatever the jolly old elf doesn't take, the Cornish pixies can have. · 11 minutes ago

Well said. Thank you.

Love this Mike and bless you and your family. Thank you for sharing.

Mike McConnaughey: My oldest son is 21 and has Down Syndrome.  Part of the joy he brings to our home is his complete joy about Santa and Christmas 365 days a year.  We have Christmas movies and music all the time.  His brothers (16, 19) used to hate it, but as they have gotten older they have embraced their 'big' brother's love of Santa.  We put him to bed by 10pm on 12/24 so Santa can pick him up and he helps Santa in Colorado.

One of my great joys is asking him on Christmas morning if he worked hard helping Santa.  His reply is "yes, busy!" · 1 hour ago

LOVE Norad. We spend a good part of the evening on the 24th tracking Santa's whereabouts. It's also a good geography lesson too!

Yes, Mollie - Santa does give the kids a lot of joy to dream about him and isn't that the best part??

Cherylyn LeBon, Guest Contributor

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: So I grew up without the Santa story and I never missed it for a moment. It just was not part of my culture. I told my daughters that Santa was just a fun story and they refuse to believe me. When St. Nicholas visited my oldest daughter's school on the Feast of St. Nicholas (Dec. 6), she came home and explained to me, "Mom! Mom! Santa is real. I met him."

So I'm just taking a strict neutrality approach to the issue. I don't say he's not real. I don't say he's real. But he does give the kids a lot of joy to dream about and I think that's a great part of childhood. · 1 hour ago

Babci: VERY timely.  And a sobering reality check...

Cherylyn LeBon, Guest Contributor

Indaba: Thank you for that dose of reality  My mother is Canadian and I know all about "OHIP" and it is something I have never envied.

You are right - I think Americans are going to get a cold slap in the face when they realize that nothing is "free," especially the Sandra Fluke-types who want the gov't to pay for their birth control.

Cherylyn LeBon, Guest Contributor

Indaba: Good luck, America.

The fantasy of "free medical care" is about to be seen. Here in Canada, we pay taxes, plus in Ontario, the govt. takes another $1,000 per employee for health care. Now Americans think that includes drugs, no. Birth control? No. Hearing aids? Physio? No. We could go on all day. You would be surprised by what we do not get.

My son had an operation with a six inch cut down his spine to remove a large cyst. Took 9 months to get the op. Hospital was dirty, blanket dirty, no sheets. He had to leave 2hours after his operation. I paid for his bandages, drugs and the nurse who he had to see every day to repack his wound.

Free health care is like going to your govt. vehicle licence place. Those people helping you can be nice, but let's be honest, they are more interested in getting back to their other conversation. There is no incentive to update old equipment. How much incentive is there to cure patients?

I now see the health care system as a mechanic shop. It ain't fancy. · 30 minutes ago

Water Chestnut: I can't speak to the collection of demographics specifically, but what I have observed is a really strange tendency in the past few years of doctors looking at the checked boxes on those forms and throwing out all sorts of diagnoses without even doing an examination.  I had to argue with my eye doctor about that when she kept making all sorts of assumptions when an actual examination would make all the talk unnecessary.  It scares me to think what might go on if I didn't argue about it. · 59 minutes ago

To me, this  directly affects the amount of time a doctor will spend with his/her patient. With Obamacare, it's more paperwork and less quality time talking to sick people - instead doctors be will referring to the "checked boxes" and being beholden to the gov't.

Quite true Paul! With this crowd, everything seems to be someone else's fault and I have no doubt the insurance companies or some other "evil" entity other than big goverment will be blamed

Paul Erickson

Cherylyn LeBon, Guest Contributor: Exactly. It may have sounded great to many in theory, but in practice, they will not like it. And I think many will be surprised about the unpleasant aspects of Obamacare: higher premiums; more hidden fees and taxes; and longer wait times to name a few..

ConservativeWanderer: As Nancy Pelosi said, we had to pass it to find out what was in it.

I sure hope all those that voted for this administration are happy now. · 1 hour ago

Echoing AnnaS at #4, what really worries me is that the people who were dumb enough to believe in the free-lunch-that-is-Obamacare and were dumb enough to reelect Obama, will not even make the causal connection between higher fees / premiums and Obamacare.  They will surely find something elseto blame it on. · 7 minutes ago

I think they will notice once the middle class is inconvenienced.  The Limousine Liberals can afford to have private insurance or see private physicians, but the middle class will be squeezed.  Middle class and hard working Americans are always the ones who suffer under these misguided liberal policies.

Just look at the public schools in America. Who opposes school choice? -Limousine Liberals!  School choice gives kids in poor performing schools a chance. Not so say the Libs - let them stay there and suffer!

AnnaS: I keep thinking they will notice, BUT most likely the hard truth will hit only those of us who already knew! · 1 hour ago
