As others have said, the best handgun is one that you like, feel comfortable shooting, and have practiced with. A lot. My own nominee for a home defense handgun is the Armalite AR-24 9 mm semiautomatic pistol. Made of forged steel, it is solid as can be, and recoil is minimal. It fits the hand beautifully and shoots like a dream. Because it is so much fun to shoot, you will practice with it often. If the day ever comes when you need to use it, it is highly reliable. There are many great guns on the market, but the Armalite AR-24 is, in my opinion, one of the best and an excellent value.
