Bio

Texan.  American.  Shit zsu caretaker.  Physician.

My thoughts:    "Making law is very very powerful, a dangerous weapon of the majority, and should be used with great caution, much debate, and very slowly."   "Love making, like cooking eggs well, requires low heat and constant attention."

kohana: Red light cameras save lives, because most folks will stop for a red light with fair warning there is a camera coming up. However, I suspect those who hate red light cameras are those who fudge and run red lights. Hopefully, you will never be broad sided by a violator, as was I, which destroyed my brand new Subaru and left me on crutches for 6 months. I feel lucky to be alive. · 8 hours ago

Red light camera's don't save lives  Studies have demonstrated that.

"Bear right."

"Frog left."

"What?"

"Never mind."

"Oh funny."

Ricochet has sharpened my libertarian position.  I've often agreed with many on the right, on many issues, but discussing them here has helped me understand we reach the same destination, via different routes.

I've also come to understand SoCons much better.

I have no problem with this ruling.  Having to prove your a citizen before you vote is an unreasonable burden.  However, that doesn't make it legal for non citizens to vote.  It will still be considered voter fraud, and probably a felony in most jurisdictions.  Like all crime, the state shouldn't have the power (and intrusion) to prevent it, but enforce the laws once broken.  An analogy, would be, you have to prove you have business or be a resident before entering a city, this would cut down on breaking and entering, but it makes more sense to protect liberty, and only arrest the burglar.

Up until very recently I'd never consider renouncing my citizenship.  But if the Republic of Texas reforms, I'm done with the USA.

I disagree with your premise, "libertarians seem to think we can have a society not held together..."

I have no problem with zoning laws, local ordinances against behaviors or crimes, nor the government condemning a property to put up a school.  A community has that right.  But I strongly, strongly, deny the federal authority to regulate my health insurance, medications, land use, job, or about any of the other 15 things that keep becoming federal law.   The powers of the federal government were limited and enumerated, and we've lost that.  The 'free market' of states should work, why else is Texas winning over almost every state, our laws work.  Why should San Antonio be a better place to raise a family than Houston, our laws work.

Libertarians understand more than anyone laws are necessary, but should be made and enforced locally as possible.

Exactly what information may I expect privacy in 21st century America?

My mail?  Who I mail?

My verbal communications in home?  Outside home?

Email?  Who I email?

My cell phone calls?  Who I call?

Instant messages?

VOIP chat during a game on my Xbox?  What games I play?

What movies I stream?   What movies I rent?

What web sites I visit?

Where I am I free from government monitoring without a warrant?

Not moving anywhere it snows.   You never have to shovel heat.

First, how do you know they are an adulterer?  If someone is separated from their spouse, pending a divorce, but now living with someone else, are you against them entering your business?  I know many, many people who have gone through similar situations.  Divorce is a legal process that can take years, are you to remain celibate during that time?

I hope your question was rhetorical, it does provide food for thought.

Me and many of my friends would be willing to donate to candidates and committees and PACS, if our privacy and sanity were respected.   Each time we donate, the pounds of unsolicited paper that gets mailed to our homes.  It becomes becomes bothersome and  insulting.   It's not mass marketing for vitamin or cleaning products, it's a political party.

In regards to equality of the races, Maxine Waters is doing great.  Everytime she opens her mouth with some new silly argument reparations or affirmative action, she pushes another moderate into a pure color blind position.   Each time she rants she makes another American realize we won't be over the issue of race, till we quit talking about race.

He could order the doors open and let them walk out, so ultimately, yes, it's still open at Obama's will.  But, reality is that we would need someplace to send them.  Congress has dictated we can't release them to any country that 'might' torture them.  Congress won't authorize their move to the US justice system.  Short of bringing them to the white house, Obama's options are restrained.

Local bonds are a lot different than the federal gravy train.  My county selling bonds for major infrastructure here in Texas is a lot different from the federal government, dispensing large percentage of the budge tin direct transfer payments, while continuing to mount up debt.  I have no 'moral' problem buying state and county bounds, in states with balanced budgets (or even a surplus, eg. Texas).

By the way, this is a good time to state my support for a complete change in the organ donation system.  It should be an 'opt-out' not an 'opt-in' program.  It is assumed that everyone will donate their organs when they are done with them, unless you state you will not.  Right now we do it the other way around.   We assume everyone wants all the 'meat' to go into the furnace or the ground, and you only donate by opting into the program.
