Bio

Walked the path from liberal to conservative by reading history extensively. Am a Winston Churchill fan.

I hoped this was a sex thing. Rats.

I am not sure of the validation of having opinions on history, when with history we must deal in facts.

Jeruselem was, for a long, long time, until the late 1800s, a disease infested backwater of a slum. American's began trying to visit the area after 1800, but few succeded. Very few ever went back.

Read "Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East: 1776 to the Present" about Americans experiences. Then read "A Peace to End All Peace, 20th Anniversary Edition: The Fall of the Ottoman Empire and the Creation of the Modern Middle East", then Bernard Lewis' "The Middle East: A Brief History of the Last 2,000 Years".

Then you have a good basis.

Paul Simon, "You Can Call Me Al ", with Chevy Chase.

Brilliant.

These will blow over, with no damage to the administration. At the end of the day, there are too many people in the media and government who are invested in the President's success. Republicans will soon find out just how impotent they are.

Bill Nelson

Conservatives go into business where they can solve problems. The government is filled with liberals, and what you see in the IRS is found in every case where citizens come into contact with their government.

Clearly we have a government of some people, for some people and against others.

Just as the military has a significant majority of conservatives.

Bill Nelson

I don't find this even a moderately interesting story.

Is there any real news here? No. Many in the government are quite liberal in their views and will consider any conservative to be evil, to be dealt with as needed. It is so now, and will remain so. Conservatives do not generally go into government, they find better places to solve problems.

Remember, to a liberal it is about the goal, the result, and how you get there does not matter.

Dr. Hawking is not in the top 20 for theoretical physicists. His star shone briefly a long time ago.

I enjoy his writings, generally.

Bill Nelson

Seriously, is anyone surprised? Any conservative or conservative group must live as open as possible, for everything and everyone you come in contact with may be wishing to "expose" you.

There is no conspiracy, no one person at the top giving orders. Just like members of the media, "they" know that the "evil" conservatives must be defeated in any way possible.  You will be recorded, video taped, photographed. The machinary of the federal government is tuned to frustrate conservatives, and those who seek to "produce" something on their own. When was the last time someone on the left complained about a regulation?

So accept it, and move on. Don't waste time complaining about it. Keep your nose clean and records in order.

Bill Nelson

This is not important. Sure the administration lied about the cause of the events, and sure, they responded badly, where they could have possibly saved those lives.

But its not illegal for the government to lie to us.

The problem is this: the foreign policy of the administration, and somewhat of the previous administration, desires to treat these "islamic" failed/failing states as "normal" nations.

How long will it be before jihadists, with a nod and wink from the Egyptian government, take hundreds of western (mostly Americans)  tourists hostage? The foreign policy of the US must recognize that these nations have a foeign policy not guided by what is best for thier own government, but for a larger cause.

The foreign policy of the PA is not about what is best for the PA (and no one cares about the people), but about the defeat/destruction of Israel.

Bill Nelson

Bill Belichick. That's a serious guy.

Bill Nelson

The "left" doesn't think that hard. They support SSM for the same reason they support most other social changes: fewer rules, fewer sins, everyone feels better about themselves.

Its a very simple philosophy. Everyone equal, no one more successful than anyone else. No one more powerful or threatening (they hate guns, because the appearance of a gun can hurt feelings).

Bill Nelson

I like the Huffington Post, but there are hundreds of comments so no real discussion.

But yes, you have to look. I always buy the Economist when traveling, very much a pseudo-conservative British publication.

Bill Nelson

Michelangelo was quite conservative. DaVinci was consumed with the pursuit of money, due to his initial status as a "bastard".

Real artists are dedicated to art, and have little time for being a rebel.

Bill Nelson

Marry a communist: from each according to their ability. Eliminates the "headache" excuse.

Bill Nelson

"...the TV shows and the movies show us the subconscious of a culture..."

True in the case of "Baywatch".
