Bio

Conservative (not Libertarian, but won't deny the label when accused), Toronto-dwelling, patriotic, America-loving Canadian. Yes, there is at least one.

Married, self-employed, happy.

Interests include:

- British television (Doctor Who, Downton Abbey, even Question Time)
- The good old hockey game
- Live theatre (Shakespeare and the like)
- Literature
- Wikipedia
- The history of human civilization
- Technology (particularly compute programming --  looks like Ricochet was programmed on Ruby on Rails or some other MVC architecture)
-Good food, beer and wine.

And once all that's taken care of, some time for some hot right-wing extremism to get my dinner guests to choke on their crostinis.

Any idea what his thoughts are on the War of 1812? Citizenship is about loyalty, not just about which country your passport entitles you to enter without a visa. If he thinks that the American Constitution is the greatest foundation for a state, I'd say encourage him. But before you do, remind him that Canada got the answers right on slavery, the World Wars and balanced budgets all before America. And see if you can find a video of Coach's Corner when Don Cherry talks about the Battle of Vimy Ridge after applauding the Canadiens Ryan White for getting into a fight right after returning from a sports hernia injury.

Zafar, my concern with immigration, putting aside the cultural ones that conservatives usually point out, is that as migrant countries become richer, they will have less excess population and less reasons to immigrate.

Is the word blow-job against the TOU? I should probably check...

Dan Hanson, I don't think there is a distinction for social/fiscal conservatism as a long-term proposition. As I mentioned, no liberal was willing to respond to the charge that pensions, RRSPs (equivalent of IRAs for our American readers) and mortgage rates all hinge upon a replacement birth rate. When that comes to pass, the debt, deficit and tax rate will be mostly irrelevant issues, all because at the time, those sounding the alarm would considered either judgemental or polluters.

So judging by the comments, we (conservatives) do this too? The few conservatives I know (sorry, but I live in Toronto, and hey, that's why I joined Ricochet. Ok, that's a lie. I joined Richochet because the flagship podcast got put behind the payment wall...) all had experiences of being deleted by their Liberal friends, but I could not find anything comparable amongst the politically-active Liberal ones. I just figure if your going to post something political in semi-public forum like Facebook, you should expect more than a 'like'.

Arguably, Agora was a metaphor meant as a sly attack/cautionary tale on European-born Islamists.
