Bereket Kelile: I've spent the last few years in the university and I've noticed that the college campus has become somewhat insulated from the outside world. I feel like it's turning into an adult day care center in many ways.

Adult day care center...hahaha! I love it. That is so true in so many cases!

I seriously had to explain what was going on in Algeria to a liberal friend of mine late last week. He honestly had no idea what I was talking about. And this is a person who I would consider well-read on current events - particularly foreign affairs. I was sort of suprised.  Sort of...

Is he channeling 1938 Neville Chamberlain?

How did that work out again?

My thoughts exactly...

One small place where I've been able to make some headway with my liberal boyfriend is the unions. I'm proud to say that he voted against the union-friendly changes to the MI constitution and he seems to get why MI becoming right to work will make it more competitive for businesses. He has been raised by a great family (liberal but I wouldnt classify them as true progressives/leftists) and has a strong work ethic...and gets really frustrated when people don't pull their weight at work. We had a great convo last week about how accomplishment has become less emphasized in lieu of "self esteem" and how that has negatatively affected our culture. And he was the one who brought the subject up!You are right in that working on folks like my boyfriend isnt an easy task, but a type of "grass roots" effort that I believe will eventually prove worthwhile. We still have a long way to go though, but maybe 4 years of a stagnant economy will do the trick. I can see the seeds of libertarianism being planted!

Matthew Hennessey: The good news?Only four more years.

Here's to hoping. I have already seen a FB friend (whose News Feed has now been hidden from my view - this was the final straw) post the following yesterday, with several "Likes":

"Long Live Obama!"

Right on, Franco. And to be honest, although he uses some well-articulated liberal talking points in this nastygram, he really didn't address your points - he either changed the subject or attacked you. I agree that change will happen little by little with someone like this - he just wants to pick a fight at this stage...

Franco: Third, he doesn't really know what he is talking about. He is ignorant. He is full of selected out-of-context knowledge that refutes nothing.

Clandesteyn,

This is such an interesting topic for a post! I won't attempt to elaborate on all of the points that others have made, since they have done a great job, but I would second the recommendation to check out (if you enjoy reading) Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. It's broken into short, easy-to-read chapters and I think that it would appeal to you intellectually.  Another book that might interest you is "What's So Great About Christianity?" by Dinesh D'Souza. It starts out very high level (i.e., "what proof is there that God even exists? How did the universe begin?", etc) and then evenutally gets more personal in terms of "who is Jesus and why do I need Him?". D'Souza makes use of science and philosophy to debunk common myths and misunderstandings about Christianity. I'm already a Christian, but I still found it to be a fascinating read and I highly recommend it.  Good luck!!

I saw this commercial over the weekend and thought the exact same thing! They must be making a killing on this...

Cornelius Julius Sebastian:   I am convinced that we need to get our narrative boiled down to a very distilled, simple synthesis of Friedman, founding Constitutionalism and D'Tocqueville.   If we can refine those three sources of material down into an easily digestible narrative essence, that message could be evangelized to great result.

Yes, exactly. I know I am beating a dead horse here, but why has this been so difficult for conservatives and libertarians to do? I wish I had some hope for the future, but I don't know...we should be infiltrating NPR, CNN, and the like with speakers who can eloquently and articulately make the case above. Rather than Alex Jones.

The petulant liberal comments at the end of the article makes me think that Cruz probably struck a nerve...

I like it.

JVC1207

Me too:-)

Although my boyfriend is a huge ND fan, I and my entire family graduated from Georgia - so if Alabama wins, that would (somewhat) vindicate the disaster that was the SEC Championship...

Do you happen to know where I might find this? I'm having a hard time tracking it down online. I'd like to purchase this mug immediately:-)

Love this post, so very helpful and relevant. I can't wait until one of the uber liberal folks on my FB feed posts this. Can we please make Fridays "Meme Buster Day" on Ricochet where someone takes a stab at one or more of the most popular memes of the week?

Pseudodionysius: As mentioned here. On the abortion issue, though, Canada is embarrassing in its equivocation and silence. · 10 minutes ago

I could be wrong, but didn't I read somewhere that gender-based abortion is illegal in Canada? Too bad the same can't be said for the US...

JVC1207

I'd say that was pretty much mission accomplished on your part. My oberservation has been that the final comment is on par with what I see when a lefty has lost the argument...

And agreed with Lucy about what other, less indoctrinated folks reading that post might have gleaned from it.

Is this seriously being shown in public schools in California? For real?!
