Bio

Nephrologist living in Philadelphia area. I was born in 1960, got married late in life and have three beautiful young children.  Still a New Yorker at heart though I live in Philly suburbs. Obsessed with true crime stories and love Forensic Files. Am an obvious political junkie and my other obsession is Michigan football though I didn't go to school there. My favorite "bragging" point is that I graduated Columbia class of 1983 with Barak Obama and graduated well ahead of him (love telling that to my kids).

Touche! Couldn't agree with you more Bruce. Whole situation in Libya is a disaster and I could not articulate on this better than the great Andrew McCarthy (wish he posted on Ricochet). Given an alternative between a brute who was helping us fight Islamic terrorists and the terrorists themselves, we chose the latter. Brilliant. And we are about to make the same mistake in Syria. I once saw a great video posted by this fearless woman calling out Graham for wanting to limit First Amendment rights in regards to burning the Koran, then went on to burn it herself, while using beacon as a book mark. Wonder if anyone has seen it. Must say, I am getting increasingly tired of Republican establishment figures like JebBush, Dole (resented his comments that Reagan wouldn't make it today),Christie,McCain,Graham etc. Never thought I would say this but Palin is the only one who seems to have a pulse on the grass roots and the only one who can connect with them.

Totally agree Harrmann. Means was terrific in this movie and very convincing.

My favorite book in the Old Testament. So beautiful and so true

As a boomer in my 50's, I think Arbore hits this nail on the head. My parents live within 30 minutes of everyone they ever knew in their lives. They believe in God and their social net has always been there and consistent. Their lives have purpose and a rhythym. They have a very strong sense of themselves. The Boomer generation was raised with less belief in God and more belief in freedom, youth and striking out on your own. We all became educated and ambitious, wanting material comforts our parents didn't have, and we all struck out on our own. The result of this is atomization, social detachment, loneliness and a complete inability to comes to terms with loss of youth. The lack of faith means mortality becomes more frightening. I am amazed at how many men my age have no friends, where their entire lives are spent with their families given lack of social networks, and how unhappy and lonely they feel. This is not, and was never, the case with our parents.

Oscar Meyer commercial reminds me of watching Saturday morning cartoons growing up in the late 60's and early 70's. On the opposite end (new commercials I hate), I can't stand the Geikko commercials. To me they are juvenile, silly, irritating and not the least bit clever. I especially hate the one with the pig. For the life of me can't understand why people like them.

Lover her and agree with her 100%.

I think Romney ran a somewhat timid campaign and did not do enough to go after working class and traditional voters. However, I tend to agree with Jay. This is a different country now and is becoming increasingly unrecognizeable to me. A generation ago, Sandra Fluke would have been laughed at as a spoiled sanctimonious brat, and a poltician who cavorted with the likes of Reverand Wright, Bill Ayers and Rashid Khalidi would not have been let anywhere near the Oval Office, especially within 7 years of 9/11 no less. The country has fundamentally changed for the worse and will continue to do so. Hopeless.

I got totally hooked and obsessed with this series. Fortunately, a friend lent me the entire series on DVD, so I wasn't Chinese water tortured one episode at a time (am I allowed to write that or is it too un-PC?). I will admit though that towards the end it was getting too politically correct, what with the Imam giving him "last rites".

It goes beyond the Obama embrace. I was turned off by the public lambasting of his Republican colleagues in the House after the Hurricane. Have also heard less than flattering things about one of his judicial appointments by Andrew McCarthy wherein he appointed a Muslim judge and criticized his critics as Islamophobes. Finally, John Derbyshire did an effective take-down of him  on on Radio Derb back in Feb 2012 when he inserted himself in the Clemente suicide. Overall, I get the sense that he flaps his mouth without knowing all the facts (Kinda like I am doing now!).

I have to agree re Reince Priebus. He seems clueless to me and find him unconvincing.

Thanks Peter. Great name by the way.

On the other hand, I must say that he is one of the VERY few Republicans who is not intimidated by the press. I have never seen anyone more adroit in coming back at the media and attacking their premises.

I always find Gingrich interesting, but he always strikes me as bombastic in his prognostications. If genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration, he needs to sweat more.

I have always thought there is brilliance in simplicity, and that if you want to avoid mistakes you need to keep things simple. An NFL example. Lombardi's offenses were always simple while he always said that Landry's were prone to mistakes due to their complexity. Look at the results of the Ice Bowl.
