Yep, it's the only kind of freedom that, for example, Mike Bloomberg cares about. A 16-year-old can get any kind of sex device, abortion, abortifacient, instructional guides, whatever, but if Mike had has his way she couldn't enjoy them while having a 32-oz. Mountain Dew.

And at least he wrote one good song, Tiny Dancer.

Noooo........ Not................. Tiny Dancer....

Ok, so shoot me because my second favorite movie of all time Almost Famousfeatures this song in a wonderful scene on the tour bus. :) · 5 hours ago

Foo Fightin' Dave Grohl did a fantastic "Tiny Dancer" cover....

QuickerBrownFox: If there's one takeaway from all this, it's that Kevin Williamson knows how to drum up publicity for a book. Could this be the new TV-out-the-hotel-window?

All of a sudden we see an influx of folk heroism among soon-to-be authors, wedgying grown men with sagging pants, ripping the batteries out of mobile devices during takeoffs, body-checking shoppers exiting through the entrance, and chucking canned goods across the supermarket so that the person in front of them in the fast lane has only 12 items or less. Nothing straightens up a saloon like a pundit with a book contract. · 6 hours ago

It's true, this is the kind of thing folk songs are written about.

He seen his duty an' done it
He took that phone an' flung it...

I wonder if any Muslim groups were asked for the content of their organization's prayers. Seems to me we would have heard about this long ago if they had been.

I never thought I'd miss Muzak. Not the 1000 Strings version of Great Hits of Today, but that happy "Doot-da-doot-doot-doot-doot-doo" music that Lileks posts clips of. I'd prefer that to hearing "Livin' on the Edge" by Aerosmith while selecting the brand of chicken noodle soup I want to buy.

Yes, thanks for following all the information that's come out so far. It's a journeyman's job keeping track of all the weaseling.

Papal infallibility doesn't mean everything he says is right, and this is a case of that.

South America has had plenty of "capitalist" countries that are really kleptocracies and crony capitalist states of the worst kind. If that's what you thought capitalism was--only wealth for the connected, contracts not enforced, insurmountable barriers to entry for the poor, violence unpunished, corruption top to bottom--you might be confused into thinking that A) socialism has to be better, and B) Obama is a capitalist after all!

I had a relation who worked for the IRS who was pro-life and everything but still voted Democratic.

A) Pro-tax means pro-job security.

B) He was born at a time when Irishmen were baptized into the Catholic Church and the Democratic Party, as they said. To that end of the family it was always 1911 and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory had always just burned.

I'd be surprised if the IRS isn't more than 70% Democratic.

I still love a good pair of tube socks. When things don't come easy you appreciate them, as you do. I guess you know you're getting old when you are happy to get a nice tie and socks for Christmas.

When I worked in kids' educational books, Dorling Kindersley came out with a picture book with photographs of real spy gadgets used in World War II. No wonder they kicked my company's rear end.

That socialists are better at drawing pretty pictures of men, while conservatives are better at being men.

I'm certain it's a very comfortable dress. And that her real name is von Teese.

An acquaintance of mine notes that he fled the city of New York--from which he drew his salary--when John Lindsay "was gonna send my blond, blue-eyed little girl to school in Hollis."

Liberal policies have been running up against the cheese grater of reality and destroying cities for more than 40 years.

As a lifelong NY sufferer, I have often said that you can't go near the statehouse and fling a brick without hitting someone who should be indicted. Maybe they're afraid the idea is catching on.

~Paules: You might recall during the Watergate scandal that the Doonesbury comic strip featured a brick wall going up around the White House.  Each day the wall grew a little higher until the final brick blotted out the White House completely.  Perhaps the Obama administration is laying the foundation today for something similar.    · 0 minutes ago

How do you think the Obama scandals will play on Doonesbury? Or won't they?

Pat is right--it's all about how angry the press gets. · 32 minutes ago

Doonesbury still around? Jeez.

Anyway, Mr. S, your lips ---> God's ears.

Three branches of government? You mean the executive, legislative, and the Santa Maria? Or was that the judicial, the legislative, and Curly? Tinker, Evers, and Chance?
