Chiseling seniors and children? Sort of like Obamacare choice-maker Ezekiel Emanuel's "complete lives system" which "produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15-40 years get the most substantial chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated." I'm sure Nancy tweeted a snarky misinterpretation of that as well.
Some more great philosophies from E.E:
"treating them [old people] differently because they have already had more life-years is not [ageist]." "Adolescents have received substantial education and parental care, investments that will be wasted without a complete life. Infants, by contrast, have not received these investments."
George Savage: Funny that the Obama Administration will not defend DOMA, having decided without adjudication that the statute is unconstitutional, while continuing to implement ObamaCare in defiance of a valid federal court order finding that law unconstitutional. · Feb 23 at 10:28am
The valid federal court order finding the law unconstitutional was, uh, a mere accident! Happens all the time!
Oh, I see. Politicians and newscasters are just too darn good at being listened to! Its good to see them humbly acknowledging the danger that their professional prowess poses to a malleable public. Also, great angle to take, filling the center on civility with people who've been the most successful in chiseling careers out of the very rhetorical culture that the center seeks to protect pepole from. The rest of us would never have dreamed of taking that approach! Additionally hilarious is DuVal's boast that one (count 'em!) million dollars have (gasp) already been raised, while center's board and chairs are predominantly occupied by multi-millionaires - pardon me, "the right people in the right place at the right time".
Smaller scale: Our neighborhood after-school crossing guards can be routinely observed sitting in their cars (when no children are present to usher) to the tune of $25/hr.
Unless kids can't understand that moving cars will smush them, drivers can't understand their ability to turn a human being into a street mural, stop signs and crosswalks exist for artistic purposes and thus provide inadequate protection, and the implementation of crossing guards has dramatically reduced the rates of local vehicular child-slaughter...
As someone who actually lives in the 10th district, I can't believe how lame both campaigns are. The humor in this cuts a sharp second to Seals, "Dold is too extreme" ad. For those who are unaware, Seals and Dold are in heated competition to see who can be the bigger stereotypical, mundane, suburbany bore.
Whiskey Sam: Since when are Philly, Boston, and Jersey the middle of the country? · Oct 26 at 11:58am
Well, a long career of talking about the actual middle of the country (where we keep all our guns and religion) as if it wasn't part of the country at all tends to close a few doors.
I was struck by how wooden they both were. It was obvious that they were reading from a teleprompter. Oct 21 at 5:42am
Forget about Michelle's outfit. This was by far the best part. You can see the President's eyes shifting back and forth even when the lines aren't his! Is he scared she'll mess up one of her 6 sentences? The video is only 1:16 long, 30 some seconds of speaking per person, so what about this can't be done without a script? He even read the part, "Hello everybody! It's Barack and ... Michelle! (Cue, who me? look and giggle to camera as if to say "It is me!").
Kids get cyber-bullied for putting up embarrassing videos like this on youtube. Booooooo
To perform a feat at the professional level is to demonstrate extraordinary talent. Those who find the humility to attribute their success to God (or any higher power) are a refreshing foil to arrogant self promoters.
The viewers should see that the separated powers are not in the same room, furthermore, on the same ideological page, or of the identical mindset. Breyer might as well suggest, "everybody put their hand in the middle, shout friendsforever! at the count of 3, and break!"
I have spent time at a private and now public university; the entire culture is suffused in mockery. It is by far the most popular mode of comedy and entertainment, and is even a common element in classrooms. The self-promotion at its core bristles at the uncool concept of general decency. I'll bet the miners didn't waste much energy asserting their wit with snide remarks and pointed jokes.
"There is indeed a belief—it’s difficult to describe it otherwise—among most Jews that they are right. And it’s not so much whether these are religious Jews or not. Lay Jews also share the same belief that they are right. So it is not easy to have, even with moderate Jews, a rational discussion about what is actually happening in the Middle East.”
Is this not true of Palestinians? They seem to be hindering rational discussion quite capably without the help of an American lobby.
And the people believe, and the people hope, and the people make a revolution! No sooner are their friends at the head of affairs, than they are called upon to redeem their pledge. “Give us work, bread, assistance, credit, education, colonies,” say the people; “and at the same time protect us, as you promised, from the taxes.” The new Government is no less embarrassed than the former one, for it soon finds that it is much easier to promise than to perform. - Bastiat, 1848
I can't quite grasp how Obamacare labels itself as "progressive" on the merit of its being 160 years remiss in social logic.
