I am sitting across I-25 from you in Saudi Aurora contemplating some baking and reading.

I have always found the comparison to a driver's license to be a bit specious.   Driving is a privilege regulated by the states.  I'm don't believe I have to have any sort of license at all to carry a gun.   I don't need a license to speak, nor to vote nor to practice my religion.  Why should I need a license to buy/own/carry?  I have always viewed CCWs a data collection method for future confiscation.  In fact, in Colorado they used to require the SN of any gun you were going to carry be on the CCW, which is what triggered my suspicions.

I have always liked the idea of a Very pistol for home defense.  These were flare guns we had in all our small boats and most flares are magnesium based.  You can't put out the VERY HOT fire as it generates its own oxygen as it burns, which is why the work under water.   Anyway, I think it would make an intruder VERY uncomfortable and will look into getting one!  Might be good for Grizzlies too.  Except for the burning down the National Forest bit.

Illiniguy: I have the full range of shotguns, and am looking for a handgun. I don't like the semiautomatics because I've got eczema on my hands, which makes the process of chambering a round painful. What I'm looking for is a nice lightweight revolver which is simple to use. Any suggestion would be appreciated. ยท 11 minutes ago

as a shotgunner you appreciate the stopping power of shotshells.   Take a look at the Taurus Judge model revolvers.  They shoot either .410 GA or the .45 long colt.  either way there is a lot of lead thrown downrange.

I've been shooting since I was 10 (Philly cop for a dad) I have had dozens of handguns: revolvers, autos, single shot rifle caliber handguns, derringers etc.  The best handgun for you is: The one that you like enough to shoot enough to be able to hit center of mass under life-threatening pressure.  So find one that looks good and feels good.  Most good ranges will let you try different handguns.  That being said, different situations call for different solutions.   I carry a Colt Anaconda .44Mag when I am fishing in bear country, a Beretta .40 or my Kimber .45 around town or in my car when I travel.  The bottom line is this:  get something you will shoot a LOT and then shoot it a lot.  After that, you will find yourself buying new guns all the time!  If you are NOT going to become proficient, then any old handgun will do as it will just be sitting around anyway.

it is almost always a mistake to assume that others think like oneself.  In this case, I think the Riccochet audience is atypical and a small % of the general population.   While there is room for improving Fox, making the shows more intellectually stimulating, more Riccochet like would probably shrink it's audience.  As FOX news is the only MSM outlet consistently presenting a center-right POV I don't think adding a Peter Robinson or any of the Riccochet contributors would do anything but shrink the audience.   Maybe Dave Carter as he is colorful enough to attract a broad audience and that really is the point of FOX News as a business, non?

This is the best cranberry sauce - from Saveur

1 cup ruby port
1 cup sugar
1 12-oz. bag fresh cranberries
1. In a medium nonstick saucepan, combine port, sugar, and cranberries. Bring to a boil over medium heat,
stirring occasionally. Lower heat and cook until liquid reaches a syrupy consistency, about 20 minutes.
2. Remove from heat, pour into a serving dish, and cool to room temperature before serving. For a smoother
texture, press sauce through a strainer, pour into a serving dish, and refrigerate before serving.

it is ALWAYS a good time to live abroad for a while.  It gives you a good taste of the rest of the world as compared to the US.  Go for it, but don't become a permanent ex-pat.  It skews your judgement and you end up going native and turning into a euro-centric, America bashing, left wing, liberal egg-sucking dog.  The only thing I would add is that England would be my last choice as they sorta speak English and you will not be forced to add another language to your bag of tricks.

The War on Drugs has been about as successful as the War on Poverty and Prohibition.  Legalize it, regulate it, tax it and a LOT of problems go away.   Other problems will arise but you simply cannot prevent people harming themselves, nor should you - provided you don't require the rest of us to pay for their healthcare.

Adding Hillary to the ticket does not substantively change the ideological argument - she is the same as BO in her leftist proclivities.  Biden, being a buffoon, has no ideology.    This move scares me because the 'feelers' will be invigorated and I don't know if we can survive four more years of social justice.

The NCAA shows once again why it is the only rival of the UN for total ineptness.  how about this: any school that hires any PSU administrator, teacher or coach who was involved in the coverup looses it's NCAA affiliation for the duration of their employment.  That would punish the guilty.  nah, that would be like holding the guilty responsible and that's WAY too harsh....

I think the base assumption here is incorrect: we can create laws that will prevent these kinds of things.  I do not believe it possible to prevent evil, only react to it.  I also don't believe it possible to prevent people from snapping and creating great damage.  I do believe it is possible to react quickly and forcefully to evil or nutjobs, though we are generally out of practice in doing so.
