My resentment toward the Republican Party and its consultants is equally real.  By their trashing of Governor Palin, they have made it clear that they neither want nor deserve my support.  Thus, they no longer have it.

I suppose it depends how you define "socialism."  If you mean totalitarian Marxist Communism then I agree.  If you mean a cradle-to-grave welfare state, then I disagree.

I think Christianity is compatible with a wide range of political systems, including anarcho-capitalism, monarchy, and European-style social welfare states.  "Render unto Caesar" and all that.  Christianity doesn't dictate a specific political system or form of government IMHO. · 2 hours ago

Socialism venerates the state as an earthly deity and savior.  Thus, incompatible.

The defensive excuses used for the last Pope were weak and considering this one has dug himself in quite a bit deeper, I imagine the excuses will be even more creative. 

She 'unfollowed', so allow me to make the case (although I'm sure I'm not up to a true believing Catholic's creativity) : 

You see, the Pope is infallible on spiritual matters, however he's free to make stupid remarks about whatever else that a bunch of Catholics around the world listen to, but they are well aware that he's only infallible in spirtual matters, so there isn't a problem here.

I don't blame Foxfier for unfollowing (if, in fact, she did) when this is the tenor of the commentary. Nowhere have I seen any Catholic I'm aware of on this thread offer infallibility as a smokescreen. That's just you taking a particular Catholic idea--misconstruing it in the process--and raising a silly argument that no Catholic here brought up to explain the Pope's remarks. There's plenty to argue about on the thread; no need to argue a point you've hallucinated.

DocJay: In the last two weeks I've managed to irk gays, SoCons, Libertarians, Feminists, people who rightly hate the word Nazi, and now it's the Catholics turn.  

I join you in the criticism as well. The new recruiting methods target poor countries with no appreciation whatsoever for capitalism or a free market. I was highly supportive of JPII but my intolerance of anti-capitalist talk beginsnow.

No more excuses... no more religioussanctimony...from officials who are more than happy to extract tithes from those who can't afford itor equally as  irresponsible, put the burden on those who can.

I'd love to!  Slight logistical problem, though: Dallas is 350 miles from Lubbock.

My first date with my husband, I travelled 7500 miles from Shanghai to Dallas.

Be careful Joan: Mike has a fairly protective pack of gal pals (Andrea, Felicia, et moi, par exemple) looking after his interests, so Olive may have to go through a thorough approval check first! :))

So true.  And Felicia's the meanest one of all.  You should have seen the last one she didn't approve.  It was a little scary.  But, as far as my list, Olive passed the first requirement.  I like her name.  The rest are a little more grueling, though.  Requirement two is she has to love flownover.  Oh, sorry.  Grueling starts at number three.
