Big fan of Ricochet. Especially mad for Mr. & Mrs. Hemingway and James Delingpole.

Dr. Rahe, what a tremendously thoughtful article. I'm so confident about Romney's win that I'm free to start worrying about the pitfalls and battles ahead. When that hissing reptile Reid crawled out from under his rock to threaten/promise total obstruction, I was really startled. And believe me, my opinion of the so-called Dem "leadership" is so low that it is hard to get my attention. But Reid managed to give me a cold chill.

Well, let us see the final outcome. Either way, it's a stark reminder that there is much work and education to be done, rebuilding the foundations of intelligent political thought and process. It boggles my mind that some people do not understand the importance of a strong party structure, voting a straight ticket, supporting the R candidates across the spectrum, etc. etc. But such is life in Postmodernia, where there are few (any?) absolutes and very little regard for history, tradition, orthodoxy and our forefathers.

FANTASTIC, Rick.

To tell the truth, I've been avoiding Ricochet recently because of the excessive doom factor.

My husband and I are on the same wavelength. We've been watching British WWII stuff almost non-stop for weeks. If you have Netflix streaming, we highly recommend the series Foyle's War. Each episode is a totally engrossing feature length film and always includes a murder mystery plus several plot lines that pull you into the daily lives of Brits fighting on the home front. Another great series on Netflix is titled Wish Me Luck - about the British civilians (mostly women) who went into France undercover to gather intel and work with French Resistance. The bonus in both is the gorgeous scenery and geography, mainly southern England (Hastings area) and northern France (Normandy). One episode of Foyle contains a nice omen, centering on a stretch of coastline named “Romney's Cove.”

And of course there's the hands down, all-time greatest British war propaganda film ever made: Mrs. Miniver, which holds up magnificently to this day and still has unique power to stir the soul and steel the spine – starring Greer Garson, Walter Pigeon and Teresa Wright.

Between debate limbo: “We know the president is his own harshest critic and he knows that Mitt Romney had a better debate,”  a spokeswomen for the campaign, Jennifer Psaki, said.

This is a Freudian id nightmare train wreck thing--mom and dad, judging from their abandonment had to be rather harsh as well. Could Frank have been harsh on the pubescent teen as well? OMG--tell the media to ease up on the harsh tones...

No idea what to believe anymore but my response is to cough up another $50 for Team Romney. And another $50 for Veterans for a Strong America... have you seen this brand new 1 min. ad:

Fight like your life depends on it, because it does. Give till you bleed, because your money won't be worth anything a year from now if we don't elect Mitt Romney.

Excellent post as usual, Dave. I am with you. Our culture is so diseased and crass. It is almost abusive to people with any modesty left.

And yet.

And yet, people can avail themselves of different choices. There is a virtual ton of culture/arts/music available now to anyone with a computer. Much of it at no cost. No one forces us to buy Gaga over Bruckner. No one forces us to pay for cable TV. etc. etc. etc.

Another point: some endeavors do cost money, as well they should. Example: we love to go to the Nashville Symphony as often as possible, usually 3-4 times per year. But this year we can't afford it. Which brings to mind an interview I heard on the Michael Medved program during the RNC convention. A group of artists including actors, dancers, and singers were in attendance. Medved spoke to them and they realized the failing economy was directly affecting their livelihoods. Which made them start thinking, and eventually led them to the Republican party, and led them to begin speaking out.

Unbelievable! And people pay big bucks to send their children to these poisonous institutes. Then we wonder how the culture ends up commandeered by radical zombies?

Nathan, both my husband and I read your book and we've told a number of people about it. It's a heavy load to deal with but I cannot thank you enough for your brave and important contribution. You sure did blow the lid off something wicked.

Along the lines of your book (for anyone who doesn't know, the book is: Sex & God at Yale), I was thinking that Joe & Jill Biden and even Michelle Obama have all made remarks that strike me as a “porn whistle.” Usually among college audiences. Has that thought occurred to you? Yeah, I really think they are not only that desperate, but they know how hard core American colleges have become (perhaps they've read your book), and they might as well try to hook up with the extra lubricant crowd for some votes.

It’s tattered & worn looking

The red & blue inks are not true colors (a pretty accurate reflection of Obama World). Look at Billy Ayers’ commie art and you’ll see the same sort of faded, burnt orange-y red instead of deep red, saturated color:

Media + Idiots = Mediots

Yes it is suddenly becoming clear that we are in far more trouble than even I, a major cynic, believed.

It's Sodom and Gomorrica, I'm afraid. We have reared enough people to live like there's no tomorrow to seal our fate. The mountain of lies from every direction was bound to pile up and crush us one day.

Two of the sharpest, nicest, most well rounded and interesting people in the country... together. Great idea.

The book is very important. Beautifully written. I'm up to Part Four.

Thank you Nathan Harden. Your book had to be written by a man and your courage in doing so is a beacon. When I finish I intend to poke around and sample the criticism you've received, some of which I can write in my head but I'm also expecting some wildly creative postmodern non-speak.

I have a feeling silence may speak the loudest as a reaction from many readers. You'll never hear them but the impact will be strong.

Do you have the new-fangled (back-lit) Kindle Fire, or do you have the old-school Kindle?

Nathan: I do not own a Kindle, just use the Kindle App on iPod and iPhone. And I can bring up books on my 24" iMac if I want, but usually read via hand-held device.

I started reading Sex & God late last night and made it through Chapter 3. It's superb. You have a truly fine and rare ability to transmit very hard, coarse, often violent information in a way that does not damage the soul. It's because of your strength of character and absence of piousness (even though your judgement is made clear).

A stray line on page 29 struck me as so dear and wistful:

Like most guys, I’ve spent much of my life wondering what a girl wants, and hoping that it would turn out to be me.

In all instances, Obama thinks he is the smartest, toughest, most attractive and dominant man on the planet. I seriously doubt he's ever seen a Dirty Harry movie. Movies like The Green Zone and Munich would be more his style. Obama is interested in the sound of his own voice and herding half-witted humans into his harem for purposes of sustaining his own power and pleasure. He is the Nimrod of our epoch.

Nathan, you are an amazing guy and such a breath of fresh air. I am so enjoying your guest columns and we just ordered the Kindle version of your book.

In retrospect, the video from Chicago published on July 14th of this year was a major harbinger.

I just watched it again and feel shell shocked. It is stunningly violent, though the only weapons are words. Several young women seem to be primary instigators and look almost possessed.

You won't understand the chanting for the first 15 seconds. Then it becomes very clear, beginning with:

Free, free Palestine!  . . .  long live the Intifada!

Around 1:39 you see young women getting up on chairs and shifting the chant to:

Free abortion on demand! . . . Can we do it? Yes we can!

This “International Socialist” rally attracted 1,500 young people and took place a few weeks ago in a downtown Chicago hotel. Does it look to you like these people have any patience for pro-life views? This is part of the Occupy crowd that Obama and the Dems are pandering to. Why?
