GayFreedomLover LoL.  Nevermind.  I was going to respond but these posts are starting to look like self parodies.  Time to move on.

Typical Leftist tactic. Smear first, debate not at all.

Joseph Eagar You're saying SSM is ten times worse than all of those things combined?

The sexual revolution and the pre-reform welfare system's penalization of marriage?  Nope, allowing gays to marry is ten times worse.  Abortion-on-demand?  Who cares about that; letting two men or two woman get married and do gross things in the bedroom is muchworse.

Joseph, I know you're not dumb but somehow you missed the following phrase, 'and its consequences'. If you would have actually paid attention to my previous arguments then you would know what the "consequences" are. Instead you chose to throw a hissy fit with a dash of self-righteous indignation.

Let me repeat for those having hissy fits; Once you redefine marriage to fit SSM, then you can do it again and again and again. Only after SSM, it will be polygamy and consanguinity to meet the needs of those seeking to define themselves and America along the lines of Tribalism and Ethnocentrism.

If that sequence of events does happen, it will so fundamentally change the character of America that in 25-50 years America will not resemble the America of today.

Joseph Eagar Heterosexual family formation starting going downhill 50 years ago; no need to blame it all on gays.

No-Fault Divorce, the Sexual Revolution, Female controlled birth control eg the Pill & Abortion, and liberal social permissiveness have all contributed to the social dystopia well all live in. However, the challenges SSM and its consequences are of another order of magnitude altogether.

America and the West have allowed the proverbial 'Camel's Nose' of societal and human debasement under the tent. I have no desire to see the entire Camel's body follow.

FloppyDisk90 I will point out that this destruction of the family has been going on for quite some time and a leading, primary even, cause is the increasing dependency by heterosexuals on the welfare state.  Yet I see (and I'm oversimplifying here to make a point) a collective shrug of the shoulders by SoCons.

Actually, we've been having that debate as well. Try here and here.

Jim Ixtian
FloppyDisk90 "Slippery slope" isn't an "argument", it's a "prediction."

Except when it plays out pretty much as people predict. In 2005 Canada legalized Homosex marriage. In 2009 a group of Fundamentalist Mormons sued to overturn a 123 year old ban on polygamy. It made it all the way to the Supreme Court of British Columbia where Justice Bauman ruled against the FLDS not on the grounds of religious freedom, but safety of the women and children of that community. Even as a non-lawyer, I thought Bauman's ruling was weak.

Furthermore, along the way it was revealed that other groups seeking to redefine marriage were organizing and agitating. Polygamy in a Muslim context, polyandry, polyamory, cousin marriage, etc.

This problem isn't over, it's just beginning.

FloppyDisk90 Not according to this.

And as is to be expected from US government statistics there's a lot they left out. Those numbers excluded various types of immigrants by visa, refugees, etc. nor does it include projections of immigration patterns or birthrates.

However, in some ways demographics don’t matter. What counts is the effectiveness of intimidation. Islamofascists don't need to get you to believe, but to merely to comply in doing what they want, and not doing what they don't want. The Mohammed cartoons episode showed they did a very good job in securing the obedience of the MSM and the Liberal establishment. Lord Ahmed threatened to march "10,000 Muslims" on Whitehall if Geert Wilders gave a speech he was invited to by British MP's. Wilders never made it past customs at the airport.

Pay attention Floppy, like Freddy, you've got a lot to unlearn.

Jim Ixtian
FloppyDisk90 That's fine because if our great and noble experiment in representative and theoretically limited governance can't survive a few Utah fruitcake polygamists and a clan of hicks in the sticks wanting to shack up with their 2nd cousins, then it deserves to die.

Unfortunately, it isn't just a handful of Fundamentalist Mormons or Hillbillies marrying each other. It's the increasing number of Muslims Obama is importing into this country, all too many of whom have complete contempt of our laws, Constitution, and culture because they believe theirs is divinely inspired and superior. It's the increasing number of people living in this country who rather define themselves by identity group rather than view themselves as Americans.

The history of the United States is but a moment against the history of tribalism and ethnocentrism. It is far easier to destroy than to create.

What I love about libertarians is they constantly display how utterly naive they are to the consequences of their beliefs.

As should be obvious, polygyny will be the most common form of polygamy practiced. Sorry Barkha, most men of sound mind and libido ain't gonna play sloppy Nth's to several other guys so the polyandry thing isn't going to happen except for loser Omega males. Even Beta males aren't going to put up with that scenario.

So now let's think about the math. If you take disproportionately more women out of the available mating & marriage market you'll end up with disproportionately more single men with no opportunity for mating, no incentives to work hard for anyone but themselves, no future, no hope for a future, no reason to support a society that discriminates against them.

And that folks is where we get to the real nasty stuff.

Not just societal decay because men have no incentive to work hard, but a mass of disenfranchised males who have every reason to get violent and kill the males who have the females.

Hello revolution.

But hey bro...it doesn't affect you...until it does...

http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2010/08/10/rifqa-bary-case-ends.html says similar.

There's a reason why the writer was called Meredith 'Hijab' Heagney;

Last week Columbus Dispatch reporter Meredith Heagney published an article attacking the credibility of potential honor killing victim Rifqa Bary...

...But speaking to sources in the Columbus area, it seems that Ms. Heagney is more than just a neutral or objective observer. According to these sources, Heagney has used her position with the Dispatch to serve as the de factopress agent for the extremist Noor Islamic Cultural Center, where Rifqa's parents attend (the mosque's ugly ties to terror covered here atJawaafew days ago).

One such example is an article in the Dispatch yesterday where Heagney promotes Noor's current "Holy Month" celebrations. Earlier this year, Heagney penned a glowing account of the Islamic hajj featuring the outreach coordinator for the Noor Center. Last November, she plugged the mosque's Somali conference, failing to note the presence of Hassan Mohamud, who has recently been in the news for a promotional video complaining about "the hell of living in America" and for his advocacy in support of suicide bombings...

captainpower  says that the Rifqa Barry's claims of honor killing threats were not found to be credible.

Unfortunately, the report from the Florida authorities is no longer available. However, there's a good critique of it from former FBI agent John Guandolo here;

The report finds: “Ms. Bary’s concern that she may be killed because of her conversion from Islam to Christianity remains a subjective and speculative concern…” and concludes there is no conspiracy to commit violence against her. The investigators in this matter offer this opinion void of any knowable facts.
In fact, a due diligence review would reveal the existence of authoritative Islamic Law texts officially translated into English. This review would further reveal Islamic Law – which is real law– has requirements and rules as to how to deal with those who leave Islam [eg The Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law, "Umdat al-Salik" also known as "Reliance of the Traveller" - publicly available].

and more disturbingly;

It was noted that the Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) -Columbus (Ohio) and the Staff Attorney for CAIR were present during the interview of M[s]. Bary by FDLE Investigators.

Fake John Galt: So how is this much different then the whole baby daddy - baby mama situation already being supported?

The difference is that the former situation has been allowed to metastasize largely through the consequences of neglect and social debasement while the Islamic variant is motivated by the ideology of Islam. The final goal of course, it so make the Kafir pay to be enslaved and conquered.

Mollie Hemingway, Ed.: How did I receive a degree in economics from the University of Colorado without knowing Keynes was gay?

Frankly, I'm more disturbed that no one has mentioned that Keynes was a moral reptile because he was a fervent believer in eugenics. In fact he was the head of the British Eugenics Society from 1937-1944. That speaks volumes more about his advocacy of dodgy economic theories than being a homosexual.

As for framing Keynes behavior and economic theories as being driven in entirety or in part by his homosexuality I don't understand why that's so controversial. The entire Cultural Marxist ideology of Queer Theory does just that with religion, art history, history, literature, sociology, psychology, and economics.

Analyzing people, art, historical events, and the Bible through the lens of Queer Theory has been a standard tool by the Left for some time. So I really don't understand what's so controversial about what Ferguson stated. Other than the Left trying to silence debate and discussion.

When I joined Ricochet one of the things that really annoyed me was there were tons of people using cats as their avatars. I mean it really bothered me so I originally used 'ALF'-a cat eating alien as a form of protest. Since then, I've mellowed out a bit so as to be more tolerant of "Cat-people". Now, I just use a picture of a beagle, of which I own two who actually love hunting birds, rabbits, and cats.

katievs "My definition" of marriage is the one underlying western civilization and all its freedoms.

Indeed, that is one of the critical elements that has distinguished Western Civilization from the rest of the world which defines itself along the lines of Tribalism and Ethnocentrism with their handmaidens Polygamy and Consanguinity.

This is what utopian socialists and libertarians naively, if not ignorantly fail to understand-that the rest of the non-Western(mostly Islamic) world often define themselves in very different terms than utopian socialist/libertarians can ever understand.

What the utopian socialists & libertarians also fail to understand is that once marriage is redefined via SSM, then it can be done again and again and again. Only it will be done along the lines of polygamy and consanguinity which will fundamentally change the character of America from one of Individualism and Merit to one of Tribalism and Nepotism. Not today, or next week, but in 10, 25, or 50 years from now America will be wrought by feuds and distrust between groups defining themselves by blood and ethnicity than the ideals of the US Constitution or 'America'.

At that point America as a cohesive nation & ideal will be dead.

captainpower Also, is there a source other than Pamela Geller?

I admit I may have fallen for criticisms by her detractors, but I don't know whether to fully trust her.

The hissy fits and snits between Charles Johnson at LGF and well...everyone are well known. He really became unhinged. As for Geller, she's good and has done yeoman's work in fighting CAIR, ISNA, MSA, and other Islamist organizations. What she did for Rifqa Barry was really noble.

I can't state I'm surprised. These problems have been recurrent in places like the UK for some time;

Benefits clampdown on ‘harem’ Muslims

EXTRA state benefits paid to additional wives in polygamous marriages are to stop under the Government’s welfare crackdown.

and(via the Telegraph);

Muslim preacher urges followers to claim 'Jihad Seeker's Allowance'

A Muslim preacher is secretly filmed urging followers to take benefits from the state to fund a holy war.

...[Anjem]Choudary, a father-of-four, claims more than £25,000 a year in benefits, £8,000 more than the take-home pay of some soldiers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, according to the Sun, which covertly filmed the preacher at three meetings.

and France;

A French Muslim butcher at the centre of a firestorm over polygamy was charged on Wednesday with welfare fraud and his four companions will also face charges, a prosecutor said.
