A question and an obsrvation:

1.) were the bank bondholders required to absorb any losses here?  If not why not?  (seizing depositor money to save creditor money is an especially loathsome thing.)  

2.)  more generally,  zero interest rates make it really easy to keep money in  a "mattress".

If we can't rein-in the TSA how on earth will we be able undo Obama Care?

"Myself" when "me"  (or in some cases "I") would be the better choice.

OBL took 8 years because we could not find him.  There was never any doubt that we intended to find and punish him.  We cannot allow our officials to be murdered without terrible and certain consequences to the murders.

I am OK with tossing out DOMA because the states ought to be able to decide who is married and who isn't.  Any federal rights should follow the state status of a couple.

The CA issues seem to me to be very different.  The state population, twice, expressed its view, a view that reflects a historical consensus in America going back hundreds of years.  Then a small number of "men in black" substituted there own views.  

I favor gay marriage, but I think that it is a legal status that should arise through legislation or referendum, not through litigation.  There should be an expressed social consensus. 

My brother has two very smart and connected friends.  One a very successful VC investor.  They said that they had voted for Obama because they are convinced that he will implement Simpson-Bowles!

I count myself among the conservatives and I think that it should be a source of shame for us conservatives if we drive a talented and valuable voice on unrelated issues from our midst over this issue.

I don't oppose gay marriage.  It is just not that an important issue for me, especially at the national level.  If states want to vote for it in their legislatures or approve it by referendum I am fine with that and, in fact, I would vote for it.  I'm not so happy with courts mandating it.
