Actually, Merriam-Webster says that "chink"--i.e., the slur--is probably a corruption of the word "Chinese," rather than the supposed similarity between a chink in a suit of armor and an Asian's eyes.
So the connection between the 14th-century term and the 19th-century slur is even MORE tenuous.
