Also, I tried to answer this recurring question earlier but my comment wasn't posting.  Sorry about that, I am still new here and haven't got the best handle on posting and comments yet.

I used the word redemption because it has multiple meanings which are applicable to both the political and the eternal. Newt is seeking political redemption, which is a secular act.  But I would wager that Newt is also looking for redemption for his moral failings, which has little to do with his place in secular society.

These are two separate things that are based on separate acts.

Spiritual redemption is gained through the Son. Political redemption is gained through the voters. In considering Newt as the nominee, the voters can judge the importance of the former and decide the fate on the latter.

I see quite a few have taken exception with the word "redemption". I am new here, I don't know if these complaints are lodged just to be outraged about the religiosity of the word, despite the appropriateness of its use, or if you truly think I was being literal in only the spiritual sense.

If it is the latter, I can assure you that I am using the word redemption specifically because it has more than one meaning. Most common, especially from a Christian like myself, redemption is all about the spiritual, and I don't mind if you don't bye that part. Redemption also means to reclaim something of value.

Most of us are looking for that second kind of redemption politically, in our economics, in our personal finances, and some are also looking for it after having had divorces.

I won't go through and defend the things Newt has done, and I probably won't defend the things he does in the future, but I don't begrudge any man who becomes the champion of his own fate and chooses to go on a journey of redemption. It's what America is made of.

Fundamentally. 

For the record, I'm no big brain. I am just a father, husband, and recovering Perry supporter, who happens to see an electorate that badly wants redemption, political, spiritual, and economic.  They're getting all of this vicariously through Newt's run.

We won't know until later whether this story ends with actual redemption, both personal and national, or if it ends with another betrayal.

The circumstances that exist today have made people less apprehensive towards taking this leap of faith.

Given the focus on debates, rather than records, I am not sure if this helps or hurts Newt. This cycle seems to be much more of an entertainment event, and love him or hate him, Newt is entertaining.
