Not unlike Lowry contra Derb.  He heard something he didn't like....so "Shut up!" he explained.

I don't care for witch burnings.

Goyim kill goyim, and they blame the Jews.

seems like it would be great to rent a place.  to be a host could be a little more stressful/problematic.

the first i heard of air bnb was on "This Week in Tech" (http://twit.tv/).  unfortunately, it was the story about the San Fran woman whose apartment had been ransacked by renters while they continued to email her about how great everything was.  her publishing of this situation and air bnb's unwillingness to make her whole, led to this:  http://allthingsd.com/20110801/airbnb-apologizes-and-offers-50000-guarantee-in-hopes-of-defusing-security-concerns/

to be a guest seems relatively safe.  to be a host should be thought out a bit...unless the risk of having your home used as a meth lab or some such doesn't bother you.

Murderers should face permanent life-long consequences.  In fact, with few exceptions they should face life-ending consequences.  Being kind to the cruel is cruel to the kind.  These weren't felony white collar crimes or drug possession but various forms of homicide.  Disgusting.

Aaron Miller: I'm against the permanent consequences of felony convictions, such as the inability to vote and notification to potential employers. Perhaps Barbour is, too. The article says 189 of the 200 pardoned inmates "had already completed their incarceration." That suggests that his intent was to clear their records, rather than set them free.

Each of the five inmates released this past weekend had worked as a trustee at the Governor's Mansion. They are David Gatlin, convicted of killing his estranged wife in 1993; Joseph Ozment, convicted in 1994 of killing a man during a robbery; Anthony McCray, convicted in 2001 of killing his wife; Charles Hooker, sentenced to life in 1992 for murder; and Nathan Kern, sentenced to life in 1982 for burglary after at least two prior convictions.

things that may me say, "duh."

AGW-freakoutishism has always been driven by greed. the greed of the grant-writers and rent-seekers.

oops...forgot the biggest promoters of all in the original:  watermelons of any and all shades of red inside.

The WORST are automated sinks/towels in bathrooms.  Repeatedly waving at the towel dispenser to get its attention or finding my hands out of phase with the water delivery from the faucet quickly throw me into a rage.  Keep it simple, stupid.

Actually, Ronald Reagan was "Ronald Reagan" for at least fifteen to twenty years before he was elected.President.  You need only go back to his '64 speeches for Goldwater to see that.  Sooooo, any old body without political experience might be able to be a great president, but that doesn't describe Governor Reagan.

agreed.  except those old Russian rifles cost ~$100 and a spam can of 420 is currently $94 at cheaper than dirt.  much more affordable than stockpiling that Springfield round...so i'm nowhere near a k of the 30-06.  and as a bonus, if i buy many more of those M/N's i'll be able to reenact scenes from Dr. Zhivago...that 8-foot long bayonet is something else...

CitizenOfTheRepublic

well that's an unpleasant thought.

perhaps putting my dollars in "investments" such as M193, M855, & 7.62x54R wasn't as stupid as i sometimes think.  :(
we are doomed.

Peter, you might want to look more closely at the differences between WI and OH.  Ohio Republicans bit off much more than Walker and the WI GOP and unfortunately - to complete the tired metaphor - couldn't chew it.

I've angered more than a few old friends back home in Ohio by speaking out in support of SB5 from down here in TN.  It seems that the Assembly really screwed up the reforms by jamming it all into on big, fat target of a bill and by including firemen and policemen in the reforms [unlike WI], which meant that thousands of relatively photogenic, motivated, disciplined men and women were leading the charge against it.

My old, rural school district can't pass a tax levy [70% against] the last couple years because folks are fed up with excesses of educrats and building sprees, but police and fire automatically start with a reservoir of respect because of the nature of their jobs...not that it's right to exclude them; but it is politically necessary.
Add to all this the fact that so many families have set up one spouse in public sector for secure benefits while other goes for wages.

too bad they didn't have NCAA football to fill the void Orwell finds in pacifism...

i'm only joking a bit.  first time i finally got to watch a game in Ohio Stadium, i was blown away by the martial air of it all.  giant flags, beating drums, blaring brass, 100+ thousand people chanting in unison, screaming for the destruction of an enemy...or something like that.

playing with balls does soak up quite a lot of testosterone that would otherwise be put to laying to waste weaker neighbors.  although as the central activity of a majority of masculine American males it is quite a big circus to go with the debit carded, welfare "bread" passed out by the state.

I just made the following report to that site:

"Every public appearance by the Stuttering [expletive] of a Miserable Failure in which he goes off the teleprompter (or can't pronounce the words on it - e.g. Navy Corpsman) is terribly damaging to the public's perception that the President is anything but a dangerous fool.

It's going to be a long 14 months, my friends..."

Could be that I used the email address: stuttringclsterfofamisfailure@gmail.com registered to BH Obama.

I wasn't feeling Ricochet-Terms-of-Service-ish when I say Diane's post and went to the site...I haven't been feeling well today.

uh....Ron Paul is not on "my side."  And, I don't have any choice, but to "put up with him" because he can say whatever he wants.  Your line of think sounds like my former Persian co-worker who though a naturalized US citizen didn't have a visceral understand of freedom of expression.  "Why does the US government let Pat Robertson slander Islam???" he'd ask.  Sad.

Aaron Miller

but the fact that the average American kid spends as much or more time being taught and governed by teachers as by parents and neighbors. Government and social programs are replacing parenthood.

No, the greatest problem is that they spend all that time in age-segregated cohorts.  That's where the stupidity flourishes and worst of their mal-education is imparted.

It's all a neat trick this caring society game.

Take a large portion of the income generated by a man's labor, spend it on a national healthcare system to care for everyone.

If and when he has urgent need for expensive treatment to save his life or the life of a loved one, the system can refuse him if it's a poor use of resources.  And, he can't afford another option because he never had access to a large portion of the income generated by his labor.
