Skyler: I haven't seen it myself, but I hear that over services such as the Air Force have been forcing religious practices on subordinates. This is unamerican. · 11 minutes ago
I was in the Army for 11 years and never witnessed one Soldier attempt to convert another Soldier to anything. Friendly debates may take place, as in any office, but I never witnessed anyone attempt to "save the soul" of another. That said, I can't confirm it has never happened military wide.....but it would hardly warrent Weinstein's comments/beliefs. · 27 minutes ago
20 years AF here and ditto your observation. · 9 minutes ago
I'll second that. · 59 minutes ago
21 Years in USAF and never encountered it. The military is now all volunteer. I suspect a vast exodus if they start court-martialing people.
And please be aware, and I say this with the utmost respect, there are some of us who consider ourselves to be on the side of liberty and humanity and yet, and yet, somehow we don't believe that every fertilized egg is morally indistinguishable from a sentient human being.
And I surmise Larry3435 that the women murdered, butchered and treated worse than cattle in charnel house conditions are also somewhat less than sentient human beings. Maybe we could identify them as Untermenschen and that would make the practice acceptable? Maybe we could return to the Roman form of abortion practice which allowed fathers to kill their children up to the age of two because they weren't considered to be sentient citizens yet. The current mass murder of viable babies and vulnerable women would make Dr Josef Mengele green with envy. Words matter. It is time to end the carnage.
Everybody is way over thinking this. The question is "..what is science and how should that word be used in the context of global warming discussions?"
The answer is simple and straight forward. Science in the context of global warming is a religion and it is used to silence heritics.
Once the U.S. military umbrella is removed, there will be a huge move towards nuclear weapons by our former allies. One of the rules of war is mass. Nuclear weapons bring mass to the battlefield quickly and cheaply compared to conventional forces. In order to insure survival, smaller countries that can't afford or rapidly develop conventional forces will have to go nuclear. Japan, Germany and South Korea could turn out nukes like popcorn. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, etc. also have the means but it would take a bit longer. I surmise the new arms race would cause extreme world instability and assure disruption of the world economy that we can't even envision now.
I saw an interesting graphic lately that showed the vast majority of these prescriptions take place east of the Mississippi. Strange how boys west of the Mississippi are more immune to this "disease".
The experts who wring their hands over raising the retirement age to 70 and Means Testing to save Social Security are missing the fact that by using the power of compound interest, almost anybody could retire comfortably at age 60 using their own money. No taxes required, no means testing and demographics become irrelevant. Stretching out retirement age and Means Testing are only relevant when a person is retiring on somebody else's money. Eric is absolutely correct in every aspect, but it will never happen because the politicians want to collect money to spend today because it gives them power. Having control over your own money is anathema to them.
Yep, delivered the Detroit Free Press daily every morning at Oh-dark-thirty and delivered the Macomb News weekly on Thursday afternoon. I collected from the customers and learned early to pay attention to their desires. I got good tips for complying with their instructions to the letter. I also canvassed for new customers on collection day.
I had the guy who dropped my papers on the porch every morning try to scam me. He started dropping extra papers in my stack and when I informed him, he stated I should figure out how to sell them. Since I controlled the money, I simply didn't pay him for the extra papers. He was steamed but never tried that with me again.
As I think back, this is where I formed my work ethic, learned to interact with adults, learned budgeting and banking, and to trust but verify business relationships.
I thought I was rolling in money. I bought new bicycles, Lionel trains, baseball equipment and paid for my school lunches. I also bought all of the birthday and Christmas presents for my family from that money. Good memories.
It's a great way to make the rich pay their fair share because only a tiny segment of the population would even be affected. Millionaires and billionaires. Corporate fat-cats. Wall Street execs. Hedge fund managers.
Rich liberal movie stars. All the other artsy, fabulously wealthy lefty elite.
I see. So the workers who make the jets, the mechanics who service the jets, the caterers who provision the jets, the aircrew who fly the jets, the companies that support theses workers and all their families, count for nothing. A multi-billion dollar industry should just be snuffed out for political reasons. Liberty is dead.
I have an app on my iPhone that beams fireplaces to my Apple TV2. It has dancing flames and crackling sound effects in several styles. My plasma even throws some heat. I got it for Christmas morning in a condo we rented in Clearwater Beach, but it is great here in Southern Arizona today as it is predicted 10 inches of snow today.
If prevailing market demand for labor is at or higher than the minimum wage, the effect on unemployment is minimal. If the minimum wage is raised above the prevailing market value, workers will be replaced by capital and unemployment goes up.
