I understand that it is legal in the context of the fourth Amendment, but it is still possible to damage someone with only a record of his calls and their durations without accessing the content of the transmissions by cross referencing with his know associates.
For example if a married man spend hours speaking on the phone with a women other than his wife it doesn't take long to make the connection, same thing for associates that would want to stay anonymous for any reason.

While the S-300 could potentially pose a security threat to Israeli airspace and negatively impact to the IDF calculations it is not enough to align the interests of the Western-Sunni coalition seeking to topple Assad, because at this junction Syria doesn't have the means to cope with the Israeli response to such an attack.

Maybe there is a workable gentlemen agreement possible with the Russians to "monitor" the missiles to make sure they are only used for the purpose of preventing a no-fly-zone until they can be disposed off on later date in an "accident" so as to prevent them for becoming part of the permanent arsenal of either Assad or the victorious rebels.

Putin knows what He wants and might be able to make an offer Bibi can't refuse, in order to advance both countries interests.

Majestyk: Sure. Pope Leo X excommunicated and sentenced Martin Luther to death for refusing to recant. The Holy Roman Emperor was charged with carrying out the sentence. What I can't get over is the blinkered perspective some Catholics have about their own church's history. Imagine it: the bishop of Rome sentences a monk in Germany TO DEATH when such a message would have taken weeks to reach its location via horseback. If this isn't political power of the highest order, I don't know what is. · 6 minutes ago

Another famous cause celebre for modernist is the supposed persecution of Galileo for daring to challenge the church.

Actually Galileo was in forced residence at the Embassy of Toscana during his whole trial and his penalty was so symbolic He could have his daughter perform pray for his repentance. He wasn't much at risk of anything serious because He was an acquaintance of of the Pope and a worked an ecclesiastic university.

Why isn't the late Roman Late Empire era blamed for the degeneration in civilization and its aftermath that extended through the Middle Age.

I don't see why the political and military problems of the time are a stain on the intellectual achievements nor should it serve to classify it as dark, you are blaming the victim here....

[snip]

If someone torch your village, church, manuscripts and make you run for the woods for your life how can it be your fault ?

I never said anything about blaming anyone; my argument was that civilization contracted markedly following the fall of the West and didn't really get running again for centuries.

The contraction was military in nature and the subsequent political troubles paralyzed everything, it is not like someone planned the Middle Ages. In fact the real contraction and deterioration of civilization was that of the late Roman Empire and that really ought to be called the dark ages as took what was mighty and made it rubbish.

What were the the intellectual achievements of the late 5th through the 8th centuries? · 1 hour ago

I would recommend the "History of Western literature" for a list of authors, the entry on the early middle age is shorter than others but still interesting.

So putting aside the labels, would we all agree that the first few centuries following the fall of the Western Empire were pretty dark? · 8 minutes ago

I don't see why the political and military problems of the time are a stain on the intellectual achievements nor should it serve to classify it as dark, you are blaming the victim here.

A country example would be that Italy was a pretty dark, politically unstable, and violent place during the Renaissance, but yet we can't deny the genius of the writers and artists of the time.

If someone torch your village, church, manuscripts and make you run for the woods for your life how can it be your fault ?

iWc: Sorry, folks. But a great deal of this is propaganda.

Sources for counter claims, please?  It's an area with lots of room for misunderstandings. · June 2, 2013 at 7:29am

For anyone who says that this is propaganda I would recommend to pick up a copy of the "History of Western literature" of Otto Maria Carpeaux and to get an idea of how much literature and art was created in that time and how much the Reconnaissance and the modern age owe to them.

SMatthewStolte: It’s not a very scientific poll, is it? Sometimes, even unscientific polls that let readers vote can be interesting. For instance, we learn something about Ron Paul supporters when he consistently wins these sorts of things.  19 minutes ago

The poll itself can say more than the result of it indeed, in this case this poll is significant if a good portion of the Telegraph's readers are Conservative donors or political activists because they can potentially influence policy if someone can direct the attention.

Online pool are like protests, meaningless in themselves but great to connect interested parties and get the means to articulate an agenda.

Refugees numbers over the last 75 years/

Here is numbers of all the refugee crisis in the last 75, the number of Palestinian refugees is being kept high to just be a weight on Israel and the treatment they receive from UNRWA is basically keeping them as cattle and not consistent to what other refugees receives.

Gender aside, this is also my first choice, even though I could find a way to justify naming a girl Samuel, but passing on the family name is good enough for me.

My second choice would be a very modest Royal Navy warship, because there is nothing greater than having HMS Amaral in the same sentence with HMS Invincible even if it is to say that they were sculted due to budget cuts.

What is the policy about private citizens donating money to buy military equipment ? It would sure be neat to buy a MBT and have it named after me, at a unit cost of $5m to $10m it is almost a bargain.

RightinChicago: This is the only crossdressing a kid should ever see in a cartoon... · 1 minute ago

The this with this cross dressing is that the audience is well aware that the someone is getting fooled and we laugh at the idiot.

The Japanese have a lot of crossdressing cartoons but they are aimed at adult audiences.

Zafar: From the charter

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/plocov.asp

Article 6:

The Jews who had normally resided inPalestineuntil the beginning of the Zionist invasion will be considered Palestinians…. · 3 hours ago

What date is that ? 1920 ? 1948 ?

Zafar: From the charter

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/plocov.asp

Article 20:

The Balfour Declaration, the Mandate forPalestine, and everything that has been based upon them, are deemed null and void… Nor do Jews constitute a single nation with an identity of its own; they are citizens of the states to which they belong…. · 3 hours ago

So from Article 19 Arabs can have self-determination but Jews can't, aren't even a people and must be subordinate to Arab countries ?

It is consistent with Arab countries heavy handed approach to ethnic minorities.

So their own charter calls for mass expulsion of Jews and refuse to acknowledge their character as a distinct people endowed with self-determination. Thanks for making our point Zafar.

Zafar: Assad has been a basically quiet neighbour for Israel - constrained by his desire to remain in power.

Only if  by "quiet" you mean "making it possible for Iran to organize, train, equip and sustain an army of Hezbollah fanatics on Israel's northern border."  No Assad-led Iranian client state (aka Syria), no Hezbollah.  If that's "quiet," what does "loud" sound like?  Overt invasion by regular Syrian armed forces?  I suspect Israel would prefer the latter if it meant eliminating the former.  It would almost certainly mean elimination of the Syrian air force and much of its army. · 14 minutes ago

In a sense Israel and Syria has been fighting each other in Lebanon for some decades now, which is unfortunate for the Lebanese but it does mean that Israel is in no danger for losing the Golan and Assad is never in danger of having to defend Damascus. It's almost a gentlemen agreement.

Hezbollah military power seemed to have peaked in the last Lebanon war, if this thing goes on for some more time they won't be regaining that level of readiness for some time.

I am not a hardcore standup comedian aficionado so I couldn't say if women excel at in that profession or not.

As for women in general my total non scientific guess would be that men are funnier, although it might be because I don't spend as much time goofing around with the other sex as I do with my mates so I might just have never had a chance to see it. Although it is always fun to talk with grandmas because they always have interesting stories.

Hitchens point about childbirth making women less likely to be funny does raise an interesting question : with all the stress and pain involved, I guess it is a miracle women don't set out to beat up their husbands for being partly responsible for the whole affair. Maybe babies being cute helps, but still it makes me wonder.

Hint: who starts with g and end with r and there are oldamei in the middle.

You shouldn't burden us with such hard riddle ;)

Has any Palestinian leader every claimed that Jews do not exist?

Nat as outrageous a position to take, after residents of West Bank smoothly accepted Jordanian rule, Iraq intervened in the context of the Hashemid dynastic links, and Yasser Arafat from the Al Husseini family that has been the leadership of Palestinians since the 1930's was resident in Egypt and was favorite of Nasser. So you can say that part are Jordanians and the other half are Egyptians.

As for the Goldameir quote itself could we have a date ? Because up to the 1948 the thing defining Palestinian identity distinctly from the its neighbors is mostly Mandate borders drawn by the British and after that it is Arab countries confining them into ghettos and refusing them civil rights for 60+ years.

are you advocating that 5 millions people, half of whom are sympathetic to the terrorist organization Hamas and the other half to the Israel denying PLO should be allowed in ? They can stay in Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. space a plenty
