Part of the reason books are still doing well is because they're just easier to use.

I think you are right about this. I'm not sure the technology is quite there yet to make eTexts more desirable than physical books. However, I think with Indiana University's latest move we are heading that way. 60 to 70 percent off the price of the book might make up for any inconvenience that may exist.

I know, Ethan. That people fail to understand how awful minimum wage laws can be boggles my mind. After all, they were brought to the United States as a part of the eugenics movement that wished to drive unskilled Irish laborers out of the workforce!

John, that internship seems like a great opportunity. I wish more companies had as thoroughly developed internship programs as yours seems to have. A well developed internship program, I believe, can do wonderful things as far as production and labor value is concerned.

Great commentary. I'm partial to write a column for my school newspaper regarding the statistics outlined here and Heritage's analysis. The column would surely provide fodder for those that love to call me a "neo-reaganite trickle down idiot," as one reader so kindly characterized me in an email today.

I didn't really like any candidate tonight. Makes me wish Mitch Daniels would have gotten into the race.

9/11 was a tragedy; a tragedy we are not diminishing by asking how it could have happened. · Sep 11 at 9:28pm

That's absolutely ridiculous, what happened on 9/11 was an attack, not a tragedy.  Two Boeing 747s colliding while taking off at Tenerif Airport is a tragedy.  Airliners purposefully flown into the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon killing almost 3000 people is an attack. · Sep 11 at 11:35pm

Yes, but is it unfair to speculate as to their motivation for attacking us? I have a hard time believing the terrorist woke up one day and randomly decided they wanted to attack America. To truly understand your enemy, you must first understand their motivations.

Nico Perrino

Data from studies conducted by the University of Chicago suggest Rep. Paul is right. This is also the same conclusion the 9/11 Commission came up with: namely, that occupation was the underlying motivation for the attacks on 9/11, and the underlying motivation for most suicide bombings in the Middle East.

From a U of C press release:

Despite a popular belief that suicide terrorism is the result of religious fanaticism, such bombings are really a calculated response to occupations by outsiders, according to research in a new book,Cutting the Fuse: The Explosion of Global Suicide Terrorism and How to Stop It. The book examines exhaustive data on suicide attacks since 1980 in the Middle East, Chechnya, Sri Lanka and around the world.

This raises a greater question. What is the risk of foreign intervention? We give money to the Mujahideen and later they become our enemy in the Taliban. We provide support to Saddam Hussein and later we overthrow his regime . We support a Pakistani tyrant in Musharraf, now exiled from his own country.

What has this gotten us?

9/11 was a tragedy; a tragedy we are not diminishing by asking how it could have happened.

If a government official abides by the rule of law, I care not what their religious beliefs are.

Judithann Campbell: The main problem here is Title IX.

Title IX is exactly where OCR claims the authority to push through this measure. Funny that they would just now discover this authority despite the existence of Title IX for decades.

Casey Way: Berkowitz would be an excellent Uncommon Knowledge or podcast guest to talk about this situation.   · Sep 9 at 4:06pm

I most certainly agree. Berkowitz would be great for Uncommon Knowledge. Afterall, he is a fellow at the Hoover Institution, so it shouldn't be that hard to get him on.

What Judithann said is important. Rape is a crime and should be handled by the police. But more than that, rape is a horrendous crime and one that is often very hard to prosecute because too often it is a case of "he said, she said." If the criminal justice system has a hard time administering proper justice in rape cases -and let's not forget our system is the best in the world- how can we expect an untrained panel of professors and college bureaucrats to do it?
