Sorry Claire but just because he is Austrian and speaks German (or Austrian for Obama fans) and is angry does not mean we should "shudder" He is absolutely correct, the tolerance demanded by and given to muslims is one way. I lived in the Middle East for 8.5 years and know how much "tolerance" muslims give Christians/Hindus/etc. Need I mention Jews?
He is correct in stating that if a muslim iman was attacked ( esp. in the same grotesque fashion the Arc. Bishop was killed in) and killed in a western country it would be front page news for months as prove of our colective "islamaphobia" Christians and other religions are persecuted daily in the muslim Middle East and if those religions ask for tolerance then they are branded as being "insensitive to the local culture" Trying eating or drinking water in public in Qatar during Ramadan.
Welcome aboard, though I am a bit put off that they are both from an Ivy League school, what no "regular" students have applied? Don't we have enough elites running around in the media already?
Peter, thanks for the link, what a great article. Is the US heading that way? I wonder how long before the class envy takes place, not against the rich but against the gov. elites, making twice what the poor schulbs in the private sector make.......
Ursula, I spent 2 years living in Qatar and 6.5 years living in Bahrain. It's not a bad place to live actually, well if you can get past the heat in the summer. Claire is correct, who would have thought you can get addicted to arning tons of tax free money in the middle east. The sponsorship system is a bit screwy but overall it was an excellent experience.
I lived in the Middle East for 8.5 years (6.5 in Bahrain 2 in Qatar) I think what most people either forget or don't realize is that the GCC countries are all Sunni ruled and regard Shias/Persians with barely constrained disdain. They fear a nuclear Iran because in their mind the World Wide Caliphate should be Sunni, not Shia. They fear the power and influence that a Shia Iran would wield over the Sunni Arab world.
It is kind of shocking that the UAE Ambassador would state this in public, however it will quickly fade and be forgotten (after all, it's not like a Republican said it) If a strike were to ever happen you can bet that the "Islamic World" would loudly condemn it in public and in private wipe the sweat off their collective brows.
Detroit already has a huge immigrant population, the largest concentration of Muslim/Arab immigrants in the United States. Detroit needs new government, not new people.
All the failing cities have the same common denominator,lLiberals at the helm.

It is a one way street.
