Suspension of all foreign aid to Egypt for four years, with an additional year tacked on because it was on 9/11.
Forgiveness of existing debt? Not just no.
What can a president (or government generally) do, consistent with conservative principles, to reverse the pathologies of unwed parenthood, under-education and underemployment in the nation's cities?
Something the MSMers and lefties (BIRM) who decry the minority speakers at the convention as tokens (or worse) might consider:
Republican minority officeholders/candidates are almost always elected by mostly-white electorates. Mia Love's district is probably the whitest in the country. Allen West's and Tim Scott's are pretty white. Nikki Haley's South Carolina, Ted Cruz's Texas, Marco Rubio's Florida, Bobby Jindal's Louisiana -- you can't win any statewide office with minority voters only.
Dem officeholders, on the other hand, are almost always elected by voters who "look like them" (to borrow an Obama locution), due to the existence of gerrymandered minority-majority house districts. I don't think there's a CBC or House Hispanic Caucus member (other than West) who represents a majority-white district. (Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Who has the problem with race, again?
You had me until the last paragraph:
"So the real reason that someone allegedly feels empowered during a hook up is because that person is using using someone else as a means to his/her own sexual pleasure. When feminists do this, it's called empowerment. When men do it, it's called sexual assault."
There's a wide range of using someone else as a means to sexual pleasure, and sexual assault is only at the far edge. It might be reciprocal. It might be thoughtless, narcissistic, hedonistic, irresponsible -- it can be any of these nasty things without declining to the level of sexual assault.
Thoughtful overall, though. Thanks, Emily.

I couldn't disagree more. As Budget chairman, all federal spending must pass under his green eyeshades. He can slow down or fast track any spending program, and there is nothing that gets done without his cooperation. As President of the Senate he gets a good seat for the State of the Union Address. And he gets to break tie votes. · 36 minutes ago |
He's already done all the heavy lifting in the House - whoever would succeed him as Chairman just needs to carry his previous work into the new Congress. We will need someone who can work with the new GOP majority in the Senate (assuming) to peel off enough realistic Dems to pass it into law. Nobody's a better advocate for this than Ryan himself.

I think Ryan could do much more for the cause of fiscal rectitude as President of the Senate than as House Budget Committee Chairman. And that's the only issue in this campaign.

With your permission, I'll use this the next time I debate this topic with a lefty. · 22 minutes ago |
It's all yours.
When will Ms. Warren start taking responsibility for bank robbers who make their escape on the roads the rest of us paid for?
I'm late to the party -- just listened to this episode today.
But a constructive suggestion: whenever you have David Limbaugh on, don't book another guest. Those who love David will enjoy having him on the whole hour, and those who like him in smaller doses won't be continually frustrated with his jumping into the questions asked to the other guest. I thought Tevi was great, when he got a chance to speak.

I stand corrected, but you're missing my point. · 9 hours ago Edited 8 hours ago |
I get and agree with your point. I was just correcting your factual error.
| Tamara Jackson: I absolutely concur. The Morman faith is not a Christian faith; it is in fact an easily disprovable cult. And yet Mormans are usually great citizens and family people. I will be voting for Romney for (a conservative) president, not theologian. · 7 hours ago |
I'm a Mormon, and I assure you that my faith is Christian. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior, believe His teachings, acknowledge His grace as the source of my hope and salvation, and strive to follow His example above all others.
With respect: it doesn't matter to me if Tamara Jackson believes I'm a Christian. It only matters to me if Christ does.
| EThompson: * * * Mitt Romney's father (George) grew up in a polygamist family and completely rejected this lifestyle when he chose to marry and raise a family, run successfully as a two-term governor of Michigan, make a bid for the 1968 GOP presidential nomination and serve successfully as HUD Secretary under Nixon.* * * |
Not quite accurate. George Romney's parents were monogamists, although they lived in the Mormon colonies in northern Mexico which were established by Mormon polygamists to escape from US federal prosecution. George Romney did have polygamist grandparents.
Thanks for the link. That speech conveys a depth of graciousness that I have yet to detect from any of President Obama's speechwriters. I hope to be surprised.
My favorite part of the speech was the end: after invoking God's blessings on the crowd and America, he thumped the side of the podium as he walked away. He had his Chris Rock vibe working, and since he couldn't just drop the mic and walk off, he did the best he could.
