Bio

John Galt is a fictional character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged (1957). Although he is not identified by name until the last third of the novel, he is the object of its often-repeated question "Who is John Galt?" and of the quest to discover the answer. As the plot unfolds, Galt is acknowledged to be a creator, philosopher, and inventor who symbolizes the power and glory of the human mind. He serves as a principled counterpoint to the collectivist social and economic structure depicted in the novel. The depiction portrays a society based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces stifling mediocrity and egalitarianism, which the novel associates with socialistic idealism.

I am not this fictional character.

In a free country we should make people vote? The narcissism of the political creature truly knows no bounds. This is nothing more than politicians trying to stay relevant as more of the population recognizes them as the ridiculous grifters they are and decides to opt out of the voting franchise.

The house has the ability to stop it now and always has. Just stop funding it, a program without money will die. Once it is dead they can clean it up and wipe it out.

@dash #5: true, though it would be better if every time a person received a paycheck they also got a tax bill from the government that had to be paid immediately. The hidden nature of how taxes are collected masks the true burden of government.

True, men typically "hunt" using a tracker methodology, Women "hunt" using a trapper methodology. I think with the rise of women in the work force we are seeing more of this manscaping as more men are picking up on tricks / methodology from the ladies. The flip side of this is more women picking up masculine looks / technique. Humans are very much a "monkey see monkey do" / "if it works, do it" creatures.

CORRECTED: @MFR #61: My Granny use to say that a man chases a women till she catches him. Point being that both are in the game, one is just playing a deeper subtler game.

I am for anything that makes it more difficult for Congress to pass laws. Our problem is not that there a no laws. Our problem is that there are too many laws. That were not well considered and discussed, that are hastily done. When 2000 page legislation can be introduced and voted on in the dead of night, by politicians that have not read it and do not completely understand it then it is too easy to pass law and not to hard.

You make the mistake that the people voting for him care about a budget.

@Mothership Greg: Of course it is personal, that is what the fight is over. 5% of the population is being used to dictate values and morals to the 50% of the population that take traditional religion and marriage seriously. Forcefully redefining an institution that many consider a sacred, intimate and fundamental aspect of their everyday lives to include what until recently was considered a sexual perversion. Knowing that such a redefinition will force their children to be taught this perversion in their schools and most likely cause their Churches to be sued into nonexistence. How could it not be personal?

There is nothing to understand. To a liberal it is not about the mind but the heart. If it feels good then do it, if it does not then don't and nobody should be able to make them.

Obama is polling well because he is a likeable guy that has a family that looks good.  A lot of people voted for him so they could tell themselves that they were not racist and continue to support him to prove to themselves and others the same.  He has managed to convince most of this group that the reason his policies are failing is because the Republicans are blocking him at every turn because they are a bunch of rich, bigoted, idiots.  The press is putting on a full court press to convince everybody that Obama is still cool but that Romney is a weird, bully.  It might be that Obama will lose in November but I do not see it.

There is always tax policy. I have heard that there are some places that have an exit tax. Could not the opposite, a sort of entrance tax for moving to a state do what you are suggesting within the current legal framework? Maybe an extra 5% tax for the first 5 years of filing taxes in the state?

He is our President and the office deserves respect if not the man.

Give the rich that are saying to increase taxes on themselves some credit. At least they are willing to put their money where their mouth is and put some skin into the game. They recognize that there is a problem and are willing to help. It is easy to see how they can interpret our resistance to do the same as selfishness and not the principled position that we do not want to spend our scarce resources on approaches we are sure will not work.

It is those that keep calling for tax increases on others that I have no respect for.

Cowardice how? By not publicly chastising and embarrassing a powerful member of the government? By not setting themselves up as an opposing force against the government's will? Sounds more like good sense than cowardice to me.
