Whether Heritage is right or wrong is beside the point.  A serious suggestion that the cost of de facto amnesty could be so large surely establishes that we need border enforcement now, and further studies and a serious and sustained legislative debate before providing the benefits of citizenship to tens of millions of aliens.

There's evidently still a common culture in St Louis.  Maybe it's a good thing the "fly-overers" haven't taken notice and haven't assaulted it.

Despicable.  The real story line appears to be that he appears to have had a relatively exemplary record at Cranbrook.

Wait for coverage to come that will contrast his career success to that of Harvard classmates who crashed and burned.

I'm desperately trying to see the difference between "you break it you bought it" and The Mouse That Roared

This was what the duchy of Grand Fenwick depended on.

Wonderful!

Forgive me, as a puzzled gentile, but isn't this a shabbos goy ruse?  C'mon! This isn't a case of a "tin ear" -- it's a lead ear.

Well done!  And as Stanley Kurtz has demonstrated, the New Coalition also closely resembles the old South Side Chicago Harold Washington coalition.

4.3.  I guess I'll be looking for a better grounded site.

William Butler Yeats (1865-1939)

       THE SECOND COMING

    Turning and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity. . . .

Governor Perdue's remark, with the squib containing Orzag's (the full article is behind a firewall) gave me a chill.  Her musing reveals a governor incompetent to hold office.

I don't know the full content of Orzag's piece, and I wince at anything that would further minimize our political class's accountability to the electorate, but, in a real sense, maybe we do have too much democracy at the Federal level.  We're better off, for instance, with the electoral college, because it gives a voice to all our citizens.  (The progressives, of course, want to change that.)  We're worse off by reason of the 17th Amendment (direct election of Senators), which diminished the power of the States and made possible their control by mandates linked to Federal grants.

The Founders intended to slow things down, to allow reflection.  See Adams to Jefferson on the Kentucky Resolutions.  They had it right.  The progressives have made us vulnerable to totalitarianism via mobacracy.

Thank you.  Very well done.  It's worse than Lysenkoism.

I just ordered your book.

Get 'em on board!  Property rights have to be protected for all, and that should be stressed, but I've no problem with pointing out to various groups how and why such rights particularly benefit them.

Somehow I can't read the words "Obama bus tour" without smirking. A bus tour seems so...antithetical to his Ivy League intelligentia, jetting around on Air Force One, premimium Kobe beef appetizer eating persona. How high tech and comfortable will these buses be? Will they be models of ecosanctity?

Kennedy Smith:  . . .Whereas Kindle is only especially useful if you

  1. Travel a lot (most people don't), and
  2. While traveling, need to truck around a whole library.

3. Use an exercycle, treadmill or eliptical,

4. Read while you're waiting on a Kindle app, a la TR.

And it's easier on the eyes than a computer screen.  All in all, a great invention.

James F Strother

Ah me.  A very good man, but confused on this one.  Sad, but there's still hope that a real scientist might sit down with him.

It depends on what his definition of "roughing it" is.  This lifestyle isn't well suited to pampered types.  Then again, they are probably the ones in most dire need of an adjustment in perspective.  Two weeks max.  He'll need work boots, work gloves, and enough cash for a bus ticket home if his fun meter pegs.  Deal?

I am going to have a serious talk with him and get back to you.  Thanks!
