Bio

"To be ignorant of what occured before you were born is to remain always a child." -Cicero

I am 25 years old, a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a small business owner.  I am currently trying, without success, to publish a series of fiction books which I began writing while away at University.  I am a rabid SciFi nut, fiscal conservative and amateur (key word being amateur) legal scholar.

I would love someday to be involved in politics, primarily behind the scenes, but fear my own past and occasionally extreme opinions may preclude that.  I think I am a pretty nice guy when I am not being an arrogant jerk and as such welcome contact from anyone that wants to know more, or just to strike up a good conversation.

-Cheers

I'm glad to see that Jamie is able to join us all the way from Westminster.  Last I heard, he was caught in "The Thick of It".  :)
Nice one Troy.

It makes as much sense as any other explanation I've seen.

There is no reason the world would end on 12/21/2012.

Of course it's not going to end.  But hey, a guy can dream... can't he ;-)

Are gifts taxable?

That's a genuine question. · 0 minutes ago

After a certain $ amount, yes.

Thom Williams: Also, I've gotten to interact with several people whom I'd never have a chance to trade opinions with at all, if not for Twitter...And when you get to trade goofy jokes with truly brilliant wits, it's very fun. I get more feedback and interaction, ..., with leading writers and pundits on Twitter than I do here on Ricochet even though that shouldn't be the case. · 3 minutes ago

As a former twitter addict I take a very harsh view of it.  For the record, I only take umbrage with the 'smartest conversation' part of your post.

On the rest of what you wrote, I can understand the appeal for you (on the subject of wits, Stephen Fry began my addiction).

Ok, granting the link-sharing feature as a positive, most things about it are incredibly shallow.  It most certainly is not the 'smartest conversation' on the internet.  A few thoughts on why:

1) the inane ramblings of 'famous people';
2) it is an automatic, reflexive relaunch of most companies existing RSS feeds (BBC, Commentary, NRO etc);
3) it is impossible to truly 'converse' in 140 characters or less without simply linking to a more intelligent conversational format;
4) everything displayed is given the same priority/value stamp as everything else;
5) ^bad information travels like wild fire and tends to reverberate long after the truth has come out;
Twitter has its uses, I just don't see smart conversation being one of them.  It's hit-and-run communication rather than deep engagement.  To each his own though.

Oh good, I needed a laugh this morning.  What pearl have you gleaned from the bottom of twitter's morass today?

I'm paid up for two more years.... I always get what I pay for ;-)

California voted to maintain the Death Penalty last night.  But it also raised taxes and, *shudders*, sent Scott Peters to congress (CA52).
Oh, and nearly 20 million fewer people voted this time around...

So center-right, I no longer think so.  We are now just 'center'.  A nation which votes 'present'.

Rob, I set up a second TV in our living room.  One TV on Fox, the other TV connected to my laptop which is running Drudge/Ricochet/My County Page.  I've got steaks percolating, cigar and scotch standing by.  Boy do I ever hope they are for celebration rather than consolation.

Or, more hopefully, for the future of an alternate universe horror story we will someday tell our kids, grandkids and great-grandkids!

The problems with the video aside, did anyone else get a little choked up?  Perhaps I am just overly emotional today, but the clips from the 'Time for Choosing' speech really got me.

I would say that generally I agree that Levin/Hannity/Rush weren't great choices.  I think Medved/Prager and someone else would have been a better, less controversial, choice.

Didn't she just get married? Honeymoon I would assume.

Do you have a link to where I could get one? That must go in my window!!

EDIT: Thanks!

I'd actually call it a draw.  My reasoning is: the President surpassed the bar set for him by not dribbling on himself and mumbling in a corner; Governor Romney remained consistent to the performance of two weeks ago.
