Bio

Raised as a Navy brat I primarily grew up in Newbury, MA which is a coastal fishing village.  I've worked as a carny and a polymer chemist for the Navy but as my handle indicates I am an M.D., (LSU alumni).  I worked as an internal medicine doctor but now do private medicine.  I have a wonderful wife and 5 kids, ages 5-23.   I enjoy mtn biking, skiing, shooting, fly fishing and basically all outdoor activities.   I love sports but especially delight in football and hockey for viewing while also living vicariously through my kids.   We are Christians but are accepting of all viewpoints on life that aren't mean.  The whole idea of an internet life is new to me and I wear my heart on my sleeve when I'm not making stupid jokes.  I believe that our country is fiscally doomed if we do not defeat Obama and his progressive ideology.

I dig the whole complexity of the laws issue. It's not capitalism though if no one knows the costs and there's third party payers.

DocJay

Gotta go be a soccer dad. All of you suck rocks.

DocJay

MLH, we can give cash rates unless we have an agreement with an insurance provider. I've always just done what I wanted anyway for the benefit of the patient.

DocJay

I understand your point but people are often not at liberty to choose the ER in a real emergency. Also the insurance providers often contract with few hospitals for financial purposes. The cost issues in an ER, which no one knows except some bean counter in a basement, are so massively exorbitant that a couple facial stitches are billed out at 5000 dollars when the insurance approved payment rate might be 450. In the battle between massively inflated medical costs and nefarious insurance practices, the patient loses over and over without such protections.

Special effects for me but I'm usually really high and the lights, CG, and like the stuff are all like so wow. Man.

Quite a political mess we have here eh? I'm curious if the administration skates. All they've done so far is lie. The shame is, if we fail to pin this admin down, our history will record Obama as some sort of hero instead of a criminal.

Re: Courage

Yes Antipodius, she came to me that way long ago. Knees, elbows, and a few other areas are a mess. She failed plaquenil and reacted very poorly to methotrexate. This mutilating type is quite unusual now as you know. She's in her 60s. Her husband is the fellow who took me turkey hunting last year.

DocJay

I'm contemplating not paying my taxes if they refuse to get to the bottom of this. I'll give them until January.

DocJay

Everything in this administration is scripted.  Everything.

60 minutes interview question, post Benghazi.   "Mr Obama, I was just wondering how awesome it is to be so awesomely awesome?"

DocJay

Beautiful.  FYI, gang of eight.  If you pass this bill and our country goes to heck in a bloody civil war, you can be sure people will remember you.

It is not time to work together on anything but impeachment.  Lead, follow, or get out of the way.

Bob Laing: My grandmother, who was the closest thing to a saint I've ever known, maintained her dignity and grace until the very end of her battle with cancer.  Despite horrible pain, she never complained once.  I always attributed it to her strong faith.

Out of curiosity, is the woman in the picture religious?  My guess is yes. · 1 hour ago

Yes.

Re: Courage

tabula rasa: Real courage takes place all the time in houses on your street. We don't know about it because courageous people don't complain.

I've said this many times on Ricochet, but my Dad spent 64 years with a shattered arm caused by German shrapnel.  Not once did he ever complain. When I hear myself whining about something, my Dad's image often crosses my mind, and I usually stop, feeling a bit of shame. · 1 minute ago

Well go for it.  Have some courage, this bottle is on the house.

DocJay: Yes KC, you have the upper hand in knowledge for sure.  But just wait until we battle it out over hypertension.

Oh heck, all that reading about social justice causes hypertension, especially when the reading is such drivel.

And DocJay, may I say that I'm privileged to have been the first to Like that comment in #186. Nicely said. · 23 minutes ago

You're welcome and thanks for your thought provoking additions.   I'm bowing out of this thread now because I can't add anything more.   Keep at it.

At the same time, folks like this are my favorite customers.  It can be really hard to find something for them, but if I can, they are so happy. · 0 minutes ago

I bet you could be a podiatrist.  Seriously.  You have the brains and the inclination.  It's not too late to reinvent yourself.

Central Scrutinizer: Youtube please. pretty please? Reading the title made me pee for Joan.

Fricosis Guy: I probably should have not dropped my snide remark about hypertension in your highfalutin' post, Doc. Hate me for it.

BTW, don't let KC bluff you with his "I was a Jesuits" talk. That's like "I'm a lawyer." My dad was trained by those buggers and can argue angels on the head of a pin with anyone. He did this "sodomy as Catholic foreplay" comedy routine that lost my prostate the first time...completely clean, inarguable [if twisted] doctrine, and sidesplitting. · 8 minutes ago

DocJay: BTW, you'll of course not see that fine discussion of the Pope anywhere near the main feed.  Take out any foolishness of mine and you have some brilliant people going at it.   · 13 minutes ago
