Bio

Colin B Lane is a pen name that is actually an anagram of the greatest president of all time. For those of you who are puzzle-challenged, I will give you a hint: he came after Buchanan and before Johnson (not Lyndon).  Our local paper has a quote from this president as its motto: "Let the people know the facts, and the country will be safe." It seems such a quaint saying now, given that letting the people know the facts generally ends up with the fact giver being labeled intolerant, a hater, or worse.

Pseud has certain metaphysical qualities

Colin B Lane

I think they mean he's preparing to go Bullwinkle. His whole administration is a cartoon.

Colin B Lane

Great observation, BK. It's an excellent guide to understanding what's really going on in his mind. I will now look more closely to determine whether Prince LoatheALot (hat tip Pseud) is "angry" or merely "TelePrompTer angry."

Colin B Lane

@Jim_K -- brilliant. Just brilliant.

Colin B Lane

@Ross Conatser -- I sure hope you don't drink wine out of that cup you're holding. How gauche.

Colin B Lane

This one's easy Mollie. Now that the "I don't want to comment on a pending matter" dodge is over (but see the Professor Gates, Travon Martin cases), it's time for the "the Kermit Gosnell matter is over; we need to put it behind us" gambit.

PS, I've been a wine lover for many years. But I have always considered most reviews to be over-the-top silly. To Mrs K's point, I'm much more inclined to be persuaded by a "delicious" review than one talking about sex-loaded scarlets on chaise lounges (well, unless they happen to come with the wine).

Colin B Lane

I once heard someone say that that you don't need to know very much about something to know more than most people. I believe wine makers and reviewers have been employing this principle to their advantage for a long time.

Colin B Lane

@Pseud, it all begins with King Barack of Loathealot -- he loathes us, and everything we stand for, and his loathing sets a tone that his minions pick up on and implement.

Colin B Lane

Great post, Daniel.

PS and even if Obama himself was not personally aware of some of his Administration's transgressions, this sense of moral superiority producing an ends justify any and all means philosophy clearly begins with him. It is part of his personae.

Colin B Lane

There is a common origin to all of these scandals: the unbridled feeling of moral and intellectual superiority that suffuses today's left wing elite. They are so convinced of their own own righteousness that any and all means are justified in bringing about their desired ends. That, folks, is the essence of tyranny.

Colin B Lane

CJS, you clearly don't get it. It's worth the 100% risk of trashing the economy today to mitigate the infinitesimal risk of hotter weather in 50 years. Besides, when did "protect the jobs of working class Americans" ever come before "make coastal elites feel good about themselves on Earth Day" on the Leftist To Do list?

[Sorry, tried to initiate this conversation from an iPad. It was deleted during the posting. Will we ever be able to truly participate on Ricochet with a mobile device?]. The question is this: as I was contemplating why I should care about the hunger strike being conducted by 100 or so of the lovely denizens of Gitmo (which has prompted our president to renew his call to close it), I wondered why we never hear about the Stockholm Syndrome developing between benign captors and evil captives. Does Stockholm Syndrome (sorry no hyperlink -- damned ipad) only happen between innocent captives and not-so-benign captors?

Fricosis Guy, excellent news. Just got off the phone with the gracious and erudite Ms. Saeedi. Turns out she's longtime Ricochet member posting under the pseudonym "katievs." Gotta admit, I never saw that coming.

Colin B Lane

Fricosis Guy: You were right. Anything to help!

She also wanted some of my passwords though and I still can't get into my bank account, I'll swing by the branch tomorrow AM and see what's up.

I'm sure everything's OK. I'm mean...if you can't trust a honest Muslim lady from Ouagadougou, whom can you trust?

Colin B Lane

Fricosis Guy: I had a pithy comment ready, but Mrs. Fareed Saeedi in Burkina Faso just sent me an urgent email. Apparently she needs my help immediately.

Let me see what information she needs from me...be right back.

Have your bank account numbers ready. I suspect she will want to deposit some money for you to hold for her. I think she's totally trustworthy.

Wasn't there a famous bossa nova tune called "Honest Muslim Lady from Ouagadougou?" May have that confused with something else.
