Bio

I'm a typical sco-lib/fisc-con who is going crazy with this election.  I check my "likes" too much.  Entering middle age is surreal.  "Jane get me off this crazy thing!"

@Goldgeller Yeah I'm a nerd, and an old one.  I agree we need something relevant to say to millennials.  They think we're Nazis.  The left has defined us as Le Pin type racists for years.  They have indoctrinated kids in a mythology of the right that prevents any reasonable argument from getting through.  How do we rebrand Nazi?

The way I see it: the country will have to suffer more before they give us a look.  Their lives will have to worsen before they reconsider their philosophies.  What then?  Will they simply blame faceless capitalists for their misery, or can they awaken to the truth?

@Goldgeller You are the first to notice the avatar and its source!  That first Ultimates series remains superlative comics.  (Don't get cute with the "A" bro :P)

Regarding the Latino outreach thing: we don't need to win a majority; W got 40% Latinos.   Latino demographics are growing and we need to fight for a subsistence share of that group, or stick a fork in us.

What is the defense against idiocy like Lena Dunham?  A shot of her 8 months later in a cold water flat, knocked-up and complaining that the baby-daddy lost her number six months ago?  A shot of her waiting in line to get an abortion, teary-eyed listening to the warm assurances of Daddy on the other end of the cell phone?

I'm hovering between ranting hate and glassy-eyed shock.  That was some tasty Kool Aid...

Right on Rob.  I'm trying to shake off my state of shock.  Some of us right wingers can't jump back into our work, or our super-fun lifestyle.  We were hoping the election might create an opportunity or two to get work.

Women and Latinos...Latinos hate gringos, OK.  We gotta find better common ground with Latinos.  We need to get rid of the immigration madness, and find a better way to communicate to the Latino communities.  Dems can't rep up-and-comers AND the permanent underclass: those two groups should be in opposition to each other.  Republicans (or whoevers) need to find inroads to the up-and-comers.  The state protects the underclass and keeps them like neglected pets: no ambitious American wants that as a future.

Single women?  How stupid are these women?  Julia?  How the hell do we reach a creature like Julia?

Important to note that Drudge moved OH from Obama to "toss up" in the last 15 minutes...Matt Drudge is having a little fun, methinks... :)

Pig Man:5.  Barack and Obama are Americans, born in the USA!  (I know  this is a hard  one for you birthers.) · October 26, 2012 at 2:58pm

Unbelievable how some people can be so fooled by all the Leftist rubbish!

Obama is not an proper American as far as I am concerned. He was born on the periphery in Hawaii, and brought up in Indonesia by his agitator mother, with visits to his Marxist father in Kenya, never mind all the other influences he has experienced. That is not a "normal" American upbringing. · 1 hour ago

He remains a natural born American citizen, and can hold the office of President legally (for a little while anyway...)

"1.  Osama bin Lade is dead."  This would have been a slam dunk for any President anywhere.  W built the weapon Obama used to take him out.  Really though its a bit crass for Obama to be spiking the football here.  Dedicated operators, analysts, and soldiers brought this one home.

2.

Sub prime collapse was at least the fault of both parties, with plenty of blame to swath Barney Frank and co with.  Say what you want about TARP, but it may pay itself off over time.  None of Obama's stimuli hope to do do that: they are red red losses.

3.

Obama ignored growth policy in favor of Obamacare.  Nickle & diming small business with taxes and regulations keeping them in neutral.  USA can (and should) lead the rest of the world out of the global slowdown.  The man can't describe how jobs are created, doesn't get it.  Smarter people here than me best articulate this: Jim Pethokoukis, among many others.

4.  Obama hides the unemployed with a shell game of deception.  If the US labor population was the same today as in 2008, U3 would be 10+%

5.  Obama is a US citizen, yay.

MUCH BETTER:)  Now just see those conversions pile in!

Don't give him any ideas. · 0 minutes ago

LOL  I retract my previous reference to the concern trolling.

Pig man, welcome I guess.  Thanks for the money.  Your 5 point plan is simplistic in the extreme, and must be a feint.  You could be a bot, but talking points never describe true voter behavior.  Neither do they best describe a presidential record.  You might as well insist for us all to "Have a Coke and a Smile."  Sloganeering won't get you very far here.  Unless you concern troll a Romney loss, posing as a right-winger.  ;)

EJ's article is the most transparent attempt and legitimizing "sour grapes" I have ever seen!  Kicking Obama out of office, two years after his mid-term shellac; is nothing but a revolution in political thinking on a mass level.  Today we're talking about entitlement reform, deficit reduction, and supply-side tactics to spur growth.  Mitt ROmney emphasizes his bi-partisan experience to make the case that he "gets things done."  That enhances his credibility.  I may get pushback here, but I've always considered "Pragmatism" to be elemental to Classical Liberal government.  The EJ's hope to salvage a Pyrrhic victory from the 2012 defeat (knock on wood,) but you can't win a thing when you lose to a straw-man.

Not seeing the video...is it this one? (below)

1st the narrative is "Romney can't beat the polls" then he starts beating the polls and is flirting with wave election territory by reaching 50%. So now the story is "polls be damned, the ground game will win it for us!". Direct evidence suggests that republicans are more active in early voting this year than 2008...Obama had no opposition in ground game in 08 because McCain gave up with 6 weeks out...these articles are designed to keep Dems from giving up the ghost...they indicate a desperate loser, not a triumphant victor.

The guy is just not my cup of tea.  But he did build his business and good for him.  FOX shines with Special Report and the rest is canned messaging, the annoying Shep Smith, or newishness...except for Megyn Kelly! (Don't get to see her now that I'm working more: sacrifices!)

Embed the link in the 1st paragraph of you post Rob.  Anyone consulting on "Best Practices" around here?  Sheesh!  (JK)

Strategoist

I agree Doc.  Romney was probably not going to make much hay winning the Libya exchange, and gained more by pivoting to trade and the economy.  I thought Obama looked like a jerk, was pretty boring and even over-confident.  'Long way from '08!

So, we've got roughly three groups:

  • Dune1 Purists (who could not get through 2 and 3, much less God Emperor)
  • Original Sixers (who at least tolerate the Frank Herbert ovre, and may actually enjoy the crazy further adventures on the Dune-i-verse; so long as Frank Herbert wrote them.)
  • Dune Sluts (The Spice Must Flow and Flow and Flow!)

I really wanted to be a Dune Slut.  I wanted more of the "dirty tleilaxu," Shaitan and Duncan Idaho.  It was a shock that even in my fevered fanboyish hysteria, I could not get the juices flowing for all the Brian Herbert stuff.  So I have overlapping bitterness: the new stuff is bad, so bad I can't get my jonze.
