JoALT isn't suffering withdrawal yet, although I did catch her looking hungrily at my cellphone. She asked me to tell you that she hasn't forgotten how much she hates you all.

On the home front, life is best when your mother-in-law makes sure you have plenty of beer while your wife looks at you with hate.

Here I am taking one for the team - loving my mother in law for the beer, working on my tan via JoALT's hateful gaze and banging away on Ricochet. Life doesn't get any better than this.

So, no food photos yet - but here is one with Charlotte. She was fascinated with the airplane, counting down to blast-off once we got on the runway and exclaiming loudly for everyone to hear that we were taking off. She noticed the changes in the engine noise throughout and while she confused the landing gear coming down with the actual landing she was interested and happy for the entire trip.

Hey I just realized that Larry Kohler went with the full Obama halo in his avatar.

I hate that.

Hey, the doctor in Singapore checked you for that!

If he is railing against crony capitalism then I have to agree - but fundamental free market capitalism is the greatest secular boon to mankind in the history of the planet.

It has the benefit of making the act of raising money easier. Non-profit = charity = good. If you are not a charity you must be not-good.

I totally loved watching Jon Stewart work through his Kubler-Ross model. Unfortunately he is stuck in denial - but it was interesting to watch him bargain, get a little angry and then go back to denial.

'I am sorry, I overeacted - our form of government is bigger than this.'

Sure, Jon and just a few day ago, the President was instructing the newly graduated, "Some of these same voices also do their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices."

Next think you know Jon will be saying, 'He really loves me - he just can't show it'.

Well to my knowledge he trained BO's first press Secretary, Beltway Bob Gibbs. His replacement is Beltway Jay (or alternatively Barker Carney).

Keith Bruzelius: To play Devil's Advocate:

"And it means my rights as a citizen are subject to government approval."

You are not talking about citizens, you are talking about illegal aliens.

Also, if it was about 2nd Ammendment rights, it's a state issue, so most of us have to get a permit to carry a handgun, so it's pretty similar.

I'm not sure where I stand on E-verify, haven't checked it out, but, the way you put the other arguments, it does sound like some more government waste waiting to happen.

Do you advocate an employer being able to hire anyone without regard to citizenship or immigrant status? · May 8, 2013 at 8:23pm

Dude, Fred advocates the abolition of all governments everywhere and for the cartelization of those functions that government performs well. OK Fred doesn't say that last bit, but it is the practical outcome of Fred's abolition of that entity formed by people called government.

When you end up with a tribal nation without laws (Congo), Fred refuses to accept that it is the anarchist paradise.

Zafar: Just in terms of the quality of investigation...

According to Wonkette

“Pamela Geller Was Tricked By James O’Keefe’s Sharia Website”

The Atlas Shugs ref:

And more on James O’Keefe’s MEAC thing

http://prospect.org/article/james-okeefe-and-journalistic-malpractice

Zafar - The left wing media went nuts when James O'Keefe set up a sting to show the anti-conservative bias of National Public Radio. He and his partner posed as members of the group MEAC to show how willingly NPR executives would align with a group promoting Sharia Law (in order to accept a $5M 'gift' to NPR). The backlash resulted in the resignation of the CEO of NPR among others. story here.

Of course the website had to look authentic. Pamela Geller, who fights against the acceptance of Sharia law in the US - took the site at face value.

The left wing media outlets had to cover themselves and Wonkette is nothing if not left wing.

I wouldn't trust Wonkette to tell me the biological taxonomy of my dog - or to inform me that water is wet.

captainpower Also, is there a source other than Pamela Geller?

I admit I may have fallen for criticisms by her detractors, but I don't know whether to fully trust her.

The hissy fits and snits between Charles Johnson at LGF and well...everyone are well known. He really became unhinged. As for Geller, she's good and has done yeoman's work in fighting CAIR, ISNA, MSA, and other Islamist organizations. What she did for Rifqa Barry was really noble. · 1 hour ago

Yep gotta go with Jim here.

Questions:

What is the standard deviation for global temperature change over any 150 year period?

How accurate are all temperature records going back to 1860? · 25 minutes ago

Hi Tommy - The temperature measurements I am using in that example come from the ice core data - and a previous discussion on the topic by Ricochet's own R. Craigen. I sent him a PM to ask about the Ice core data (and the previous thread where it was discussed).

In the meantime - what I remember from his discussion was that the ice core data is pretty solid - it shows events that most Climate Change apologists ignore, like the Medieval Warm Period as well as the Tambora eruption.  Tambora is significant as it is an event that showcases volcanic winter (or that the planet is able to do something in a single cataclysmic event that can effect climate over a huge area and for a significant period of time).

As to accuracy - the ice core data is very accurate and it is publicly available.

Some of the errors it ignores are sensor placement error (heat island effect) as well as oversampling some locales and under sampling others.
