In the old Star Trek series there was an episode in which a Mineral Life form had brought Kirk and Spok down to the planet’s surface to run a scenario in order for it to understand the concepts of Good vs. Evil.

It gave them the setup and then told them to respond.

Kirk and Spok decided not to cooperate with this as it wasn’t within the realm of activities they should partake.

The thing then provided an Incentive.  It made the survival of the Ship contingent on the outcome of the Scenario.

When the Scenario was ended and Good triumphed, the being was confused.  While Good did defeat Evil, the methods seemed to be indiscernible.

What the Being had failed to note was that The Difference Between Good and Evil had been presented to it in the very beginning.  But it was so interested in running its Scenario to observe that It had interfered and altered the equation.  By pushing the members, and therefore removing the freedom of action, it had literally forced the very outcome that confused it.

Leftist interference in free markets is no different.

 Well Geeeee...

Seems the girl in question, The KNOWN PROSTITUTE, has NO Criminal Record.

Fancy that.

What Aaron Said!

Jaydee_007

For me Bad Writing is not contained in choice of words.  In fact I feel that the better the writing the more simplistic the word choice.
I have trouble with writing that tries to control me as a reader.  Or clearly shows the writer does not trust the reader and will nit pick every detail in the story.

When I see the word vista I think scenery that is Wide in its scope with little or no framing of the scene.  That is to say there is nothing peripheral containing the scene before them.  Clearly, regardless of altitude, one could not see a vista from a trail through the trees, but on a outcropped Ledge, one may then see a Vista.

Most, if not all, writers are by default readers.  And that which they have read is going to infuence their writing even on an unconscieous level.  So to see some usage of common verbage to express common ideas is not to be unexpected.

Beyond that, the use of Passive Voice or inverted attribution in writing will drive me bonkers.

"The Heat Wave is Expected to Last another week," blared the radio.

Ugh, had to hold my nose writing that.

Do you really believe this officer was going to actually harm, much less kill, the guy? Do you really view too-tight handcuffs and lost circulation as the law run amok? · Jul 22 at 10:50am

YES!

Lucky for you, you don't live in a country where simply being with a person becomes a criminal act. No such thing happened here. · Jul 22 at 10:54am

I suggest you watch the Video I posted, I don't know which one you watched.

Dave, you probably also wouldn't have been caught with a hooker and her pimp in your car, so you would have had just cause to be upset. The guy in this video, at best, put himself in a situation that could easily be misinterpreted and subject himself to trouble.

I don't see a general police-state trend, and I don't see this video as compelling evidence of out of control cops.

While the Revised Code of Washington does include language making it illegal to both solicit sex from an individual for money, or to actually pay money in exchange for sex acts, Nowhere in the code can I find any laws against associating with a person who has engaged in such activities in the past.  Perhaps the officer penciled it into his copy of the Ohio Code.

It is also listed under Probable Cause that an officers assumptions regarding actions a person may take are not sufficient, they must witness unlawful actions actually taking place.  (We're not living in Minority Report yet I do beleive.)

I do not want to live in a country where simply being with a person becomes a criminal act.

Ed G.: Sure, the cop is obviously having a bad day. But there wasn't any abuse, no sap to the head, no coercion, no planting evidence. Doesn't seem like such a big deal to me. Dude shouldn't have been picking up hookers in the first place. · Jul 21 at 5:48pm

An assault is when someone intentionally attempts to inflict immediate injury or offensive contact onto you and you suffer injury (physical or mental) as a result. Although physical contact is not absolutely necessary to an assault, the immediate threat of violent or offensive contact is required.
The person arrested suffered injuries requiring him to go to the hospital emergency room (his hands lost circulation because the handcuffs were too tight) therfore he suffered Physical Injury from the officer.

He also was Threatened several times with both Bodily Harm and Death from an Armed Officer who was Clearly not showing a proper temperment for Law Enforcement.

Yeah, that's a big deal!

And he Did Nothing Wrong.  He Attempted Several Times to Notify and was told by the officers that they didn't care, that is, until they cared.

Western Chauvinist

OK.  Let's say the Republicans do as you wish and Aug 3 rolls around while Reid refuses to bring the bill up for a vote.  I'm not even sure Cut, Cap and Balance addresses the debt ceiling directly, does it?  At that point, the president and his sock puppet Gheitner refuse to send out the checks to Granny and G.I. Joe.  I'm not sure under what mechanism they're allowed to do this, but I wouldn't put it past the most lawless administration in my lifetime.    And with the help of the supine media, Obama blames the whole thing on Republicans, who only get to voice their positions to the limited audience tuned to FOX News, talk radio and the editorial page of the WSJ.

Then what?

Then you put the blame where it belongs, with Harry Reid and Obama!

Or

Just give up and let the Democrats turn the U.S. into Greece!
Because compromising by half is how you continue the liefward trend.

When the Titanic has hit the ice berg, bailing with buckets aren't enough to keep it afloat.

Do ro Don't - Quit the Halfway Garbage!

Jaydee_007

Unfortunatly, in typical Republican fashion they are clinging to the notion that making a deal is somehow success.
They were sent to Washington D.C. to STOP the madness, not manage it.

You can only stop it by stopping it.

Just like the Obamacare Repeal, however, this seems to be an academic exercise to the Republicans.  When the repeal got to the Senate I don't remember anyone going to the public and telling them, 'hey folks, it's in thier court, let them know what you want them to do.'   Nope, it was "well that's out of the way, now we can get back to business as usual."

I want them to mean what they say!

Jaydee_007

Western Chauvinist: I'm sorry.  I'm getting lost in the weeds.  What is it the McConnell dissenters want to see happen?

It sounds like, after reading the WSJ and listening to McConnell on Laura Ingraham's show, he's protecting Republicans from having to vote to raise the debt ceiling and he's forcing Obama to present a plan containing cuts for Congress to approve or disapprove.  He is unequivocal about not raising taxes.

Given the balance of power, I don't see how we can do any better.  Someone please explain what the options are?   · Jul 13 at 11:39am

What I want to see happen is for the Republican House to pass the bill of Cut Cap and Balance and send it over to the senate where in the Republicans in the Senate will support the proposal.

That leaves the ball in the court of the Democrats in the Senate and the President.

The the Republicans can start to do some educating of the public regarding the situation and Both the Right thing is being done and the Dems are getting the blame for no progress.

That's what I want to see done!

Jaydee_007

As I said in my member feed post Capitulation by any other name, this proposal seems to be nothing less than Republicans telling the president "Heads you win, Tails we lose."

As I've said elsewhere as well, The Republicans assured us in 2010 they learned their lesson.  Unfortunatly they learned the WRONG lesson.  The lesson they are working to is 1995, the lessone they should have learnd is "Read My Lips."

Once again Republicans seem to view making a deal as 'winning.'

This is more of the same G.I.G.O. that got them shellacked in 2006.

Larry Koler: Freesmith: Excellent exception. Great point about the NRA's superb defense. But, you have to admit that they have been helped here greatly by a very specific amendment in the Constitution. A little different than any other case. But, great point. · Jul 12 at 10:12pm

I guess you missed Amendments 9 and 10 somewhere there.

Jaydee_007

Larry Koler: I understand what you are saying but the left has us on the ropes -- let's face it. They win when they shouldn't. We are in the majority and still we get knocked down time and again.

Every major thing that the left in this country wants -- except the Cold War where they eventually just withdrew from the field -- they get.

Can you name me one thing on your list that passed without the support of a Betrayer RINO Republican?

Abortion on Demand?  Harry Blackmun was a Nixon Appointee who was portrayed as three steps to the right of Atilla the Hun.

The point is this thread describes the very problem in all of what you have just said.  As long as an Olympia Snowe will come out in the face of 70 percent public opposition and say "When History calls, History calls," just to look good for the media we aren't winning.

Every time a Ruth Ginsberg glides through the Senate because Republicans are too busy preening themselves rather than tending to the job they were sent there to do, we aren't winning.

Betrayers have provided cover for Democrats in all of the above.

Jaydee_007

 I have said this before elsewhere and I'll say it again here;

There seems to be two kinds of Republicans

1) Republicans who want to elect republicans for the sole purpose of electing republicans.
2) Republicans who want to elect republicans for the purpose of accomplishing something.
What the type 1 people fail to realize is that when you elect a betrayer, you in effect have done more harm than had you lost the election outright.

A) you demoralize the base - see 2006 for the overall effect of what happens when you do that
B) you damage the brand - people begin to see no difference between the parties, one wants to bankrupt us in 2015, the other wants to wait until 2035
C) Once you start to accomplish something suddenly the Rug is pulled out from under you - See Jeffords, Jim and Spectre, Arlin for a complete explaination of this
D) you split the party and open the door for third party runs - See Minnasota and Ross Perot regarding what this will do.

The Tea Party didn't trust the Republicans because they've been stabbed in the back so often.
That's not good!
That's not winning.
