Wow.  I loved it.  This is kind of pathetic, but having grown up taking space travel for granted, I think that this video more than anything before made me appreciate how incredible it is????  Something about the line "Here am I, sitting in a tin can" along with the shots of him looking out at earth...

And I liked his voice.

After finishing the podcast I found some Hummel recordings on spotify... I loved the Antonio Pompa-Baldi recording of the first piano sonata, and plan to continue listening!  Thanks for the suggestion, Mona.

Yesterday I got the chance to pose this question to two Chinese friends who have been in the country for 7 and 18 years, respectively.  They are both conservative evangelical Christians who have studied at American universities.  They agreed that Asians tend to value higher education above nearly anything else, and perceive the Democrats as the better educated party, and the party more in favor of funding higher education.  I think it's partly a matter of pride, and partly a genuine belief in the promise of what education can do for both an individual and the country as a whole.  

The Christmas album that Jay mentions is on Spotify under "The Gift of Christmas," artists: Kevin Murphy, Heidi Grant Murphy.  Very nice!

If America is going to head down the tubes I want to hear it all narrated by Mona and Jay.

Indaba:  Thanks.  I believe it's absolutely imperative for us to stand up for the truth and for our principles. I've also tried tugging friends in our direction, because that too is essential... it's just important to recognize that it's a long process.  Writing people off for believing things that seem incredible to us just creates more barriers to mutual understanding.  Yuck.  I'm sounding like such a leftist.  But it's also true, right?

I think the danger is that the survivors will produce a new generation of super-rats...

I don't mean to be a wet blanket or anything...  Maybe it's because I'm feeling so sure that we're going to win?
